I have already used all my Search-Fu and would like to get some feedback from those of you with personal knowledge of the JP/Viking Tactical Modular Hand Guard. I am doing a .308 gas gun build and am considering this specific hand guard for it:

This rifle will be used for precision work, competition, and hunting. I won't be doing any CQB with it, I don't have rail-itis, and I won't be attaching a light or vertical foregrip to it. I will use a bipod for prone shooting and a cuff-type sling for sitting or kneeling. Thus, I am going to be putting some pressure on the fore-end. I might attach a small red-dot sight at the 1 o'clock position.

Questions:
- Is the tube sturdy and durable?
- Does it flex at all?
- In your experience, will it serve my needs as explained above?
- What is your overall opinion/experience with this tube?

Thank you in advance for any advice you can offer.

Doug,

The JP/Viking Tactics tube is one of the stoutest most adaptable tubes available. It gives nothing up in the way of sturdiness and the ability to add rails only where you need them is a huge advantage IMO.

You will not be disappointed.

A friend of mine told me "Your work has really made you cynical" my reply was "Cynical.....I passed cynical five years ago....I now live in reality"

Considering the amount of fancy equipment now seen in competition, some readers have complained loudly that the 'average guy' does not have a chance. It might be pointed out that this average guy never has had a chance. Competition is held to determine what is best, not what is average. And if all the equipment were standardized, the man who won would still not be in any sense average.

my JP308 has been used as a competition gun without any real issues regarding the materials for the past 2 yrs. the tube itself has not gotten noticeably hot while shooting, nor has any flex, or loosening occured.

It is one of my favorite 2 tube styles, and would highly recommend it.

Great! I put one on my AR-10 when I converted it to .260. Sturdy and functional.

+1 I have used them on 223 and on a pair of 260 guns and it is strong, sturdy, adaptable, stays cool, reasonable weight and I will have one on the next large caliber gas gun I build as well, can't think of anything else I would even consider putting on one

Well it may not matter now because JP doesn't have them in stock. They're not sure when they will have them in stock.

Anybody got a line on one of these handguards?

If you ordered a JPHG-1A it would ship within a week or so.

Brownells does not stock the 308 VTAC handguards.

You will like this handguard. And if down the road you find something you like better, this will be the easiest handguard you could ever try to sell.

I have it on my CTR-02 and LRP-07 (308). I like the feel and function of the VTAC.
