I have talked to Jim Shanahan (great guy) about grip mods for my upcoming Glock Open gun. My hand is too large for the Glock grip - so the complete recontour pkg. plus beavertail would need to be done.
If anyone in or near the western PA - eastern OH area has had a similar modification done - Please let me know.
I'd really like to check it out.
Thanks

What caliber are you going with?

If 40, then consider the large framed G20 or G20SF.

There is a shooter in your area that runs the G20 in Open.

Flex,
My concern is to talk with someone that has had these mods made to the grip,
and how those mods have worked out for them.

I bought a used Glock 35 a couple of years ago that had Shanahan's grip reduction and paint job. Even with a fairly arched mainspring housing area, it's definitely slightly slimmer than a stock 35 and it fits my hand well and points naturally --- that is to say like all my other glocks.....

If you're considering the idea of a G20, I'd look hard at the SF model --- they're definitely a little trimmer in the hand....

My impression is the OP is not looking for a smaller grip, but a larger one. :)
Pride and fear are emotions, which hope for an outcome. Outcomes take your attention from the present, where the shooting happens, to the future. It is totally impossible to do anything in the future, because it hasn't happened yet. The key to shooting your best is to be present as the witness of the shooting. Do not judge, do not give yourself anything to live up to. We can only shoot as well as we have trained ourselves to shoot. To try to shoot only induces stress. Be content with your current ability. And accumulate practice to improve that ability. Consolidate, build strength where you feel weakness. We cannot raise our ability until we accept our current limitations. Practice dissolves limitations. Matches simply define where the current limits exist. The game of shooting is all about redefining our limits.

Thanks guys for your input.
I need to clarify what I want to do.
As my intro to Open - I wanted to build an economical gun.
I picked a Glock as a starting point based on reliabilty, availability of aftermakrt parts
and ease of perfoming a lot of the work myself.
When handling a G17 ( I want to start with 9mm) my observations were -
The web of my hand was in the path of the slide - (not good)
The gun points high for me - (not good)
Thus the Conversation with Jim Shanahan to address these issues.
In my conversation with Jim, I asked if a blue gun type sample of these mods was available -
Jim did not have one.
So I was trying to find a shooter who had these mods done (hopefully within a reasonable driving distance of Pittsburgh Pa) so I could check it out.
I have not purchased anything to this point, and I am pondering if this is the best way to proceed.
I hope this clarifies my goal - and as always - I welcome your input.

So, just to make it really clear where you're coming from: are you looking for a grip size larger than the medium-frame Glocks (17/22/34/35/etc.)? Are you looking for a grip size larger than the large-frame Glocks (20/21)?

I got to handle a G20 over the weekend.
I believe it will do the job.
Thanks, to all
