I currently have a 9mm Major STI Trubor and am considering getting a 38 Super barrel for it. I already have a 38 super extractor in it. What else would I need to change/modify for it to run properly?

Thanks!

You should be able to get the chamber of that barrel lengthened to fit 38S and save the cost of barrel and refitting.

Thanks for the reply. I have a friend that has a new barrel I can try...that's why I'm asking.

9MM is a tapered case ..super is a straight wall
If you ream it to super...it will be VERY sloppy and will bulge cases pretty badly.
That said...people still do it

Are you having ejection problems with the 9mm?

No...everything is running fine with the 9MM..I just tried the 38 super barrel in my Trubor and everything fits fine and cycles fine...I just didn't want to try and fire it without seeing if it would work first.

I think people are confused why you would want to go to 38 as 9 is the way most all are going?

Not to highjack the main thrust of the thread, but for years I've shot with a .38 breechface and a 9x23 chamber (and an AFTEC 9mm extracter). The several pistols have had no trouble with feeding, chambering, firing and extracting any and all 9x23, 38SC, 38 Super, and some other variants. The tolerances may be "sloppy" but the reliability is fine; reloads are fine (ie, no excessive bulges. etc.); and accuracy is excellent. BTW, I am now shooting 9Major.

More to your point: Be very, very cautious trying merely to drop in a barrel. My advice is to use a gunsmith to fit the barrel to your pistol before firing it. Timing is everything.

Not really...that trend seems to have stopped and maybe even reversed. There have been a few other threads where this was discussed. When anybody could get really cheap once-fired 9mm brass it made more sense, but in many places that well has dried up as fewer law enforcement agencies are carrying 9s....i.e. if you have to buy brass anyway the price difference between 9 and Super/SC is just a couple of bucks per thousand. and if you reload the Super/SC lasts far longer.

For the OP, if you're not familiar with barrel fitting and timing issues, it might not be a great idea to pop another barrel in it and shoot it. It sounds like it's working, but that doesn't mean it's not in the process of shearing the lugs or something else bad. R,

I have a schueman ultimatch barrel that was fit by Virgil Tripp that I'm not using if you're interested. It was fit for an STI slide and might work in your slide. ...I swapped it out for a 9mm.

Just a quick update...got the new barrel in and test fired it...runs perfectly so far with 200 rounds down the barrel.

Cripple, like G-man stated. <_<

I would strongly suggest taking it to a good Gun Smith that knows the guns in our sport and how we use them.
In my mind the Pistol may "run" but still need fitting and timing done. :surprise:
You may damage the barrel and or slide soon at the least.

Call a "Smith" for a educated opinion.
Everything gets done better if I'm calm, aware, and not rushing.

+1 on not using a barrel not fit to your gun. Just because your gun is running doesn't mean damage is not being done.
