I've been lurking for a while, but this is the first time I've had a reason to post here...

I recently acquired a Mech Tech 1911 CCU in 9mm, and I'm having some very frustrating ejection problems with it.

Every kind of 9mm ammo I've tried so far has had 1-2 rounds per magazine fail to eject, this is with 4 different magazines. Everything feeds beautifully, but I keep getting either stovepipes or the empty laying on top of the next round as it tries to feed.

Mech Tech recommends +P ammo and a long ejector for the 9mm 1911 CCU. I just picked up a box of a box of Buffalo Bore 9mm 124 gr +p+, rated at 1300fps out of a pistol, which works out to an IPSC power factor of 161.2, hopefully, this will be hot enough. After reading through the 9mm loading forum here, I have picked up some Berry's plated 124's and some HS6 powder to make an equivalent load if the BB loads work.

Here is the ejector on the frame that I'm using...

as compared to the .45 ejector on my Kimber 1911...

I would think the ejector would be long enough to work. I don't know if there are any longer ones available, and I've heard about cases where a too-long ejector became a firing pin and detonated a live round as it was being ejected, so I'd rather not have to change the ejector.
Any other suggestions? Is there something I'm missing here?

My CCU is for a Glock, but it does take some real hot ammo to make it run reliably. I had a lot of ejection problems with standard major loads, but when I loaded up some 230pf loads (mine is a .40s&w) it all came together and has been great.

Contact Mech-Tech. Mine is for a Glock but they were good about fixing a problem I had with mine.

I have one for a Glock and i started to have ejection problems, looked at it, the extractor was pulling out of it's slot, pushed it back in, eventually it came all the way out and I found it in the dirt, seems it has a bent pin of some sort of spring steel to give it tension, and hold it in place, its on my 'to-do' listto send back to mech-tech to letthem have at it

check your extractor, that may be the problem, notthe ejector

Calishootr, I just checked the bolt on my CCU, and I didn't see a slot that the extractor could fall out of. Maybe the bolt on the Glock CCU is different from the one for the 1911 CCU. Extractor tension seems OK, and I've never had any trouble with extraction, just ejection.

If the BB loads don't work, I will contact MechTech, and I may also end up getting a different ejector. How hard is it to change the ejector on a 1911?

Hello: I would try a longer ejector like EGW but you will have to tune the end to get the ejection correct. I have 2 Mech-Techs both for a Glock and they shoot 9mm Production loads (131PF) just fine. I use a 125 grain Zero bullet and Tite Group powder. It maybe not the best setup but it works. I am going to try some major 9mm loads in it next using 115grain bullets. Thanks, Eric

changin out an ejector is no biggie, tap outthe cross pin in the frame and pull the old one out, then mark the new one so you can file the slot for that pin, (btw one of my blasters didnt have that pin in it, just the slide on top keepin it in place, go figure???)

as forthe CCU, least from looking at mine and tearing it down, it looks like the extractor pulled out of its slot, its press/friction fitted inthere w/ a piece of piano??? wire thru it to give it tension while in the slot??? mine gave it up and pulled completely out ofthe unit itself ie....zero extractor, still waiting on an email from mech tech on a solution, but i loved it when it was runnin hehehehe

I probably need to ask this in the 1911 forum, but how do you tune an ejector? Maybe this is all mine needs?

So your extractor pulled out the front of the bolt? Because that's the only place on my CCU where it could possibly come out.

That's the second time I've read about installing a 1911 ejector w/o a pin, just using the slide to hold it. I just looked at my Kimber 1911 and it does look like the slide will keep the ejector in place w/o the pin. This may make life easier if I do end up changing ejectors.

Update - Finally got the EGW extra-long ejector installed. This has made a MAJOR difference. I got through a 100 round box of standard 9mm 115gr FMJ with only 2 jams, and those appeared to be from a possibly bad magazine. This is much better. Now maybe I can use this as a short-range 3-gun rifle.

I picked up a used Mech-Tech last year for 9mm, Glock, and it's run everything I've put through it so far, even some stuff that I loaded too light, that won't even make 120pf.

The only thing I'd like to do to it is figure out how to get the trigger pull better. I've downloaded the factory disassembly instructions, but, they really don't seem to make a whole lot of sense to me.
