Then they announced Space City in April. I live in central TX and I dont mind the drive to either match. I can only afford to go to one or the other. I would like some opinions of people who have shot one or both and what they like or dislike about the matches.
I am shooting production and a not going to win anything so that is not a consideration. Just which has a better range, cooler stages, stuff like that. Thanks in advance for any input!

While I attend and shoot both matches, the DTC will have more stages and thus more bullets downrange. Robert's stage design for DTC is for high high factors so they favor speed over accuracy but it is a fine line and a blast!

My first larger match was Space City in 2008. I shot DTC, SCC and Area 4 this year. Double Tap draws shooters from across the Nation and is something that one should experience; however, depending on the shooter, I can see where it might be a little intimidating for a shooters first big match. It wasn't for me. YMMV

You might ask Aristotle, aka the U-Boat captain. As far as I know he is the only one to find a hole deep enough to get water over his head (but was able to hold the gun bags over his head to save the day).

Sean said he wanted to build a stage in my honor and have everyone wear flippers or floaties during the COF, lol.
Double Tap ranch has an AWESOME facility, and I had a great time shooting there for Area 4. But I also really enjoyed the SCC this year. They also have a very cool facility and some innovative stages. I actually felt like a local shooting there, meeting up with a lot of shooters I've met online, and those I just met at that match, everyone there is just so nice and friendly.
As for the weather, I thought I had it down. I'm from the great NorthWET!
uhh uhh
Everything really is bigger in Texas, including their rain storms!! Yes, pack as if you were going to the Hawaii, a South American rain forest and the Northpole and you might be ready to shoot through the weekend, lol.
My sister is due in April, and I'll be back down to shoot the SCC and welcome my nephew into this world! :-)
As for what to shoot first, it's really no biggie as you'll eventually shoot both. You can NOT go wrong with either! Good luck, have fun! Maybe see you there.

They are both great matches & I really enjoy the differences. I've been shooting SCC as long as I've been shooting big matches but otoh, I've shot every Dbl Tap match so far. I would hate to have to decide. Whichever one you do decide, remember, be safe, have fun, & do good. In that order, with that priority.
Good luck,

I'll have to agree with the consensus, you can't go wrong shooting either match.

This year it was snowing as we left the hotel for the match Friday morning and it was 75 degrees and sunny by Sunday afternoon!

Did you hear about how great the 2009 Area 4 Championship by NTP Shooters at the famous Double Tap Ranch was?!

DTC is up close open and a speed shoot. They only had one or two no shoots last year and I think I hit both of them. My best stage was when my C-More died and I had to shoot the whole thing with not dot, I shoot better blind. It is probably the most fun to shoot match I did last year and I did 7 majors counting the Nationals. Seriously the weather is no joke, take artic gear and hand warmers as well as tee shirt and shorts. The guys from Canada thought we were all a bunch of pusxies it wasn't cold.
Space City is more technical and its a match where you have to know when to slow down. Long hard shots and lots of complicated stages, more akin to an area match. Lots of guns given and some by random draw, prizes by order of finish. I recall getting a $50 bullet cert but again I was way down on page 4.
Add the Gator Classic to your list, its one of the best matches in the country, and a great way to end the season. Prize table full of stuff for each division. Again blind luck and I won the match gun in the draw. (2008).

If it matters, Space City has been random draw since I started shooting it several years ago. The prizes are also random so the last name drawn may get a better prize than the first name pulled.
