This could go in the reloading area, but this is more specialized, so I am trying here first.

You are going to laugh, but my Dad swiped my 7mm-08 dies after buying a Ruger Hawkeye for my Mom :)
He did give them to me when he gave me the Rem 660 though.

I am now in need of dies and wondering If I should upgrade or stay with the RCBS Standard die set. I have been looking at the RCBS Competition dies and wondering if the extra expense is needed. This is my only medium bore bolt gun, so it has been tasked with a lot - hunting, Silhouette, Hunter High-power and posibly a couple of tactical matches, if things go well ;) .

So please, which dies and why.

Thank You,
Will

I bought the Redding dies for 7-08 and have no regrets. My Remington 700 with a sporter barrel shoots to less than 1" at 200 yds with my handloads. When I check the bullet runout of ammo out of the Redding dies it is usually less than 0.002".

Modoc,

With Type S dies, you can adjust neck tension to specifically tailor a load to your rifle with the brass of your choice. I have found neck tension to be a critical part of getting the most accuracy possible out of a rifle. Different makes of brass have different thicknesses and being able to control the amount the neck is sized allows you to control how much tension is put on the bullet. I prefer S dies for that reason.
