New SLP owner here....

I'm about to clean off the factory gunk and take it out for a couple hundred shells and I'm looking for info on how to care for this shotgun. I've never owned an auto (been using the same old pump for the last 15 years). What places should be wet and what lube do you use? Anything else? I plan on using this shotgun for 3 gun so it will be run hard.

Thanks

Josh,

I treat mine like a 1911. The lube should spray off and hit your glasses for the first few rounds. I don't see anywhere on that platform that wouldn't like a nice lightweight oil.

+ 1 to Carl

Also I found that the gas piston love a good spray of silicone. It tended to not catch as much carbon and gunk as oil.

A friend of mine told me "Your work has really made you cynical" my reply was "Cynical.....I passed cynical five years ago....I now live in reality"

Considering the amount of fancy equipment now seen in competition, some readers have complained loudly that the 'average guy' does not have a chance. It might be pointed out that this average guy never has had a chance. Competition is held to determine what is best, not what is average. And if all the equipment were standardized, the man who won would still not be in any sense average.

After cleaning, I give the gas piston a light coat of Slip 2000 EWL and a rather copious amount to the bolt and inside of the receiver that contacts the bolt. So far so good. This is the same oil lubricant that I use for all my guns.

I run the Winchester SX3 which is basically the same. I run it real wet with SLiP 2000 EWL and I ultrasonic clean the piston every 300 rounds. I've found that this action likes plenty of lube.

I keep my sx2 wet with Mobil 1 10-30w and it runs fine.
