I have a Glock 17 that I have been getting setup for Open. Just to cover some of the basics the gun has and SJC scope mount, C-More sight and a steel guide rod. I am loading a 124gr Remington FMJ with 8.6gr of HS6 at 1.155 OAL. The barrel is a threaded Lone Wolf with a Jager comp. The comp WAS glued on with what I was told was green loctite. As far as I know it was. I shot a Tuesday night steel last week and the gun was fine. It was working well and the only malf's I had were attributable to something that was not the guns fault (like hard primers or a bad mag spring).

Today I shot 27 rounds to verify that the new mag spring I put in my "big stick" worked. Everything went great. The mag problem was solved. When I got home I noticed the comp was loose and there was a crack/hole in the side. The failure is in a shroud that is on the back of the Jager comp. The metal is thin there to save weight. I checked the slide and the comp for signs of the comp striking the gun. There are no signs of this happening at all.

Here is a picture of the damage:

The hole is behind where the actual comp part of the unit starts and seems to just be in the cosmetic shroud that forms the back of the comp. I plan to fix this but have a match to shoot this week. Should I shelve this thing and shoot something else or will this be acceptable for the short term? I am kinda paranoid about flaws in the equipment to begin with so I lean towards scraping Open for this match and dragging along my limited gun.

Any input is appreciated.

-Larry

Is that rust on the front of it?

I would worry more about the looseness than the cracked cosmetic part. Glue that thing back on and go shoot!

Nah. That is good, old fashioned, smutz. :D

The comp is aluminum so no rusty problems.

Yeah. I think I've got the loctite actually in the threads now. It is only red but it is the high temp red so I think it will do for a bit.

I guess if the crack were to grow I could always unscrew the bloody thing and finish the match without it.

Larry,

I would fix it (JB weld) and shoot it (I assume Tue Nite Steel) this week, however I would get a new comp for the gun. Red locktite does not seem to do a real good job holding the comp...just so you know.....check it for "clocking". I just set up my G34 with pretty much the same setup as yours....kinda off the subject but did you lower your ejection port to get your Glock to run? Anything with the ejector? Sorry about the thread drift.

I swear it was green loctite.........wait a minute you were there. "I guess if the crack were to grow I could always unscrew the bloody thing and finish the match without it." I dont know if I would do that. Bring out the revo. I'll carry some of your ammo so the stupid airline 11# limit will not be a problem.

Hello: I would give Jager a call to say what they say. Blue Loctite should work just fine. Thanks, Eric

Barrel gets Hot and the Blue Locktite will loosen up for sure...Red not as much depending on the fit of the comp on the barrel. My Jager comp does not a fit particularly tight and has loosened up twice using Red Locktite.

Well the green we used didn't seem to really get into the threads. I am going to see what Marty at Accuracy Speaks says.

I am going to contact Jager too but I am going out of town this week.

I am running a jager comp with a kkm on my 17. The red loctite works loose each time I would shoot. I had gunsmith mill a set screw notch in barrel and use rockset. I have not run yet, but will let you know how it holds. Wade

Just stumbled on this thread - send it back to me and I'll replace it. I'd like to see why it broke, looks like a the relief cuts on the inside went through.

Thanks, jager

I got the new comp before I even shipped the old one back! It is glued on and I shot Tuesday Night Steel with it. So far no worries.

I will get the old one back to you ASAP.

Thanks,
