Hello: I was wondering if HS-6 is temp sensitive? I shot the Glock open today and the load would not cycle the slide fully. The temp was 30 degrees cooler than it was before. Just curious. Thanks, Eric

Egads I hope not. I'm using HS-6 for some major-9 loads that will get match-tested this weekend. 180 PF at 85 degrees F so that should give me some room. Will monitor this thread with interest.

Get the light gun, you will end up there anyway, so you can shoot both. Remember light is fast, heavy is slow.

My 9mm major load (115gr JHP with 8.7 gr HS6)
has been clocked at matches at 167 - 168 from
100 F - to 55 F. No change with a major load in
this small temperature range.

Hi-Power Jack,
What I hear you saying is that your PF was extremely stable over a 45 degree temperature variance. Am I reading that correctly? If so, that is a GOOD thing.
Also, what is your OAL? Your Major-9 load sounds very similar to the one I am using.

That's true - pf seems stable from 100 - 55 F - not sure what happens above or below that temp.

These were reloaded by someone else for me - he had 115 gr Zero JHP's loaded to
1.145". Work everytime.

I'm trying to work up my own load, and trying to get closer to 1.175 so they'll
work better in mags without spacers.

But, the HS6 seems to me to be stable at the temps I'm using it at.

It's more likely that your lube has become more viscous with the lower temp and is slowing your slide down.

I went through several years of notes and found little velocity variation from 49 degrees F (PF =168.5) to 103 degrees F (PF = 170.2) The earlier chrono readings were with Zero 124 JHP and the more recent (past two plus years) has been with MG 124 JHP, all in 9 x 21.

My PF with HS-6 ranged from 167.2 to 171.8. Very consistent but also very dirty.

When I purchased a Major 9 gun, I switched to VV N-350 for both 9x19 and 9x21. I've not tried N-350 at much of a temperature extreme but found it very consistent from batch to batch.
