Looking again at your post, I note you asked for opinions on the "best" gun, which is a very subjective term, and you want your gun purchase to be "cost conscious." You will have to decide what is best for you within your budget. I suggest you handle and shoot as many guns as you can before making a decision. I have an STI and a Glock for limited, and I'm keeping them both.

Do you want a custom built STI or SVi gun, do you want to spend
$2k on the gun and another $500 on mags, $150 on holster, and $100 on mag pouches?
Would you be ok with a good used gun?
What is your experience level? ever shoot anything else?

wow! no sir, imma a newly wed! haha eventually, i will spend that kind of money just not right now. and yes i would be more than ok with a used gun. my experience level is beginner in uspsa shooting. i am not ignorant in the handling or operating of firearms since i have been shooting since before the age of 10. i am flexable because of my buget and i understand that i may be limited. i just enjoy shooting so much that i am willing to shoot with whatever i can get my hands on even if that means shooting something other than limited. i may have a connection with a glock dealer who sells used glocks that the military uses. it may be a winner!

Do you reload? If not, a Glock 34 in Production would be the way to go. Factory ammo in 9mm is much cheaper than 40.

Let's do the math. If you're going to compete in limited you really need a good hi cap full sized, full weight gun like the STI Edge. So let's see,,,,
STI Edge in 40 s&w $2000
6 mags 500
Holster 125
Belt and mag holders 200
case of ammo 300
Total $3125
G-34 $600
2 extra mags 60
Holster 20
mag holders 25
case of ammo 200
Total $905
If you're smart, you'll take the extra money that you just saved and get that new lady involved in the sport too. That way instead of catching flack for going out with the boys on weekends, she'll be going with you instead of being stuck at home.

You will get a better idea of how you are progressing, as you will be shooting against similar equipment.
Yes, there are some folks who can be competitive in Limited with a stock Glock, but not very many.
Also - the advice above to shoot many different guns (as many as you can get your hands on) is really good advice. Don't limit yourself to the Glock. Yes, they are a good piece, but they don't fit everyone well, or point well for everyone.
Look at the Springfield XD, the Smith & Wesson M&P, the CZ SP-01, even the Para Ordnance LDA - shoot everything you can find!
Production is a great place to start, and decide from there where you want to go (if anywhere....)
Welcome to the sport - ENJOY!
