I have an SX2 with the Nordic mag extension, 8+1.

Has anyone experimented with the length of the spring to help the reloads without losing reliability?

Can you tell me how many inches the spring sticks out with just the cap off? Or how many coils?

Thanks in advance,

Shay

Most people cut them down to about 10 inches, but 6 - 8 inches should be fine with most spring makes. The main rule is cut it down bit by bit until you are happy with it and it still works !!

I'm down to 8" with the same setup but I would start at 10". I was having a lot of feeding problems when I first installed the ext. and kept chopping the spring thinking that was the issue. Turns out that the lifter spring was too soft and wouldn't work properly with the ext setup. It was working fine stock before then. So with a new lifter spring and the ext spring at 8" now, it runs like a champ.

I am at 13" :) No wonder it feels a bit tough :)

jn-boston ... what types of feeding problems were you having ? I have the nordic +1 extension so I am able to start with 9 in the tube and I lust went with the original spring. It has been fine for the last couple of years now.

I was having a whole host of issues. All sorts of misfeeds to stove pipes. My gun became a single shot and only on rare occasion could I get 2 -3 shots before an issue. I tried changing ammo, the tube spring, cleaning every nook and cranny, etc. It was only after changing the lifter spring did all the problems go away and I could use any ammo I wanted. The gun runs like a top now and eats anything I put through it.

What lifter spring did you install?
Thanks,

I looked for a heavier spring but couldn't find one online so I went with a stock spring from brownells. The gun had a decent # of rounds to start with so the spring may have just been tired. Who knows...
