I am thinking about purchasing some .40 Minor from Atlanta Arms for an upcoming IDPA State Championship. Will be using it in my XDM .40. What PF does it make? How does it shoot-recoil, etc. Thanks

Every time I've AAA ammo chronoed, they are solidly 7-8 + points above minimum, I have never heard of them failing to make minor. It shoots really well, smooth predictable, consistent recoil. I shoot all their 40 S&W loads-the reloaded (blue box) is a great deal. The new load (black box) is excellent, match grade ammo.

I would chrono it before you shoot it at a match, I had some 40 major long not make PF for a regional match, it was 155 FP.

there were quite a few 161's-162's on the chrono board at nationals, someone scibbled "Thanks Atlanta Arms" across them leading me to believe the loads might be a little light.

IIRC, 131-133 out of a CZ75B.

Well, I have not tried their .40 minor but was shooting their 147 gr 9mm minor last year in a Glock 19 and was really impressed. It gave me a solid reading about 133-135 PF.

I've also been shooting their .40 major in matches lately. I cronoed that and it read about 108PF with a low SD! When I contacted them, they said that seemed a bit high and sent me some additional ammo to test. I'm going to pull a few rounds from different boxes plus the test stuff and put it through my G35 with both my stock and KKM barrels.

I have shot several thousand rounds of AA&A major .40 through my STI. It has performed very well for me. When I go to the crono, I have the most consistant reading of my squad and is always 6 or 7 above the floor. It is very good quality ammo IMO.

Ever since I haven't been able to get small pistol/rifle primers so I could reload, I've been using AAA .40 s&w major (blue box) I have to say I love it. I've chroned it at my local club (indoors with the infra-red light kit) and it was a consistent 168 to 170. I shot it at Area 7. They chroned it out of their gun (is that unusual?) and it was fine. Plus it's wayyyyy cheaper than what factory is costing around here.

the stuff i shot must have just been short of major....like the 160 power factor minor ammo.

it wasnt bad, but not as nice as 3.5 CLays and a 180 FMJ at 1.135 oal.

I'll put the details of this in the reloading section, but (with the .40 major) I'm getting a good solid 171 PF average with an SD of 9-10 in my Glock 35 with a factory barrel. But with the same gun and a KKM barrel, I'm up around 180 PF.

IOW, before you bank on having a particular PF, you need to test it in your gun.

I sell remanufactured .40 major (175pf),...and minor (155pf).....it can cause reliability issues if the gun is using factory recoil springs. Most peope shooting .40 minor use a lighter spring.

I've been using Atlanta Arm's remanufactured minor and major loads in my G35. The minor loads were about 140 pf and were very accurate, and the major loads made pf at this year's Area7 just fine. If you don't want to bother case gauging the rounds, buy the new stuff, which IMHO is a great deal for match quality .40 ammo.

Who ever scribbled "thanks Atlanta Arms" across them can also say, "thanks to myself for not verifying that somebody else's reloaded ammo makes PF in my gun". I love it when people want to blame somebody else for their own problems.
