A lot of people told me how much they liked the diagrams and wanted to know how Jim and I did them. I must admit Jim did most of the work. I did a lot of copy and pasting from Jim's warehouse. Jim has a 3d warehouse page on the google sketchup page. Jim Taylors 3D warehouse

The 1st thing I would do is download most of Jim's warehouse including the stages. If you see an item in one of the stages but its not in there warehouse you can grab it out of the stage.

In the simplest use of Sketchup its a lot like a 3d version of Paint.

A couple of tips:

Open multiable instances of sketchup. Paste on one and the others to copy from.

If you are doing the diagrams for a match booklet. Use tagets that are 1.5X to 2X the scale size. I did this on all of the area 8 diagrams that I did.

If you know the deminisions start the item you are drawing and just enter the deminsions in the measurements box in the bottom left corner.

Adjust your view to a point you like and then export to a 2d diagram.

I have done almost all of the classifier stages and I am planning on posting them in a warehouse as soon as I finish the rest of them in the next couple of weeks. (Homer is not in them)

Is it possible to download the entire warehouse at once? I can only figure out how to download one item at a time.

As of right now you must down load them one at a time. When I get off of work later this week I will try to zip them up and post them on a website or email them out to those that request it.

I really like using sketchup. It's so convenient that I even use it for local matches. Here are a couple examples:

Edit to add:
If anyone wants to setup that first one, the shooter may engage targets as visible. PP1 activates Drop Turner T4 and PP2 activates Swinger T6.
The second one posted will be setup for our match this month.

Ok...heres a question for you...Stage 11 Silver Eagle.....how many rounds are fired through the center "view"? It doesn't appear (from the diagram) that the two outer targets in the center target array are visible from the outer edges of the shooting area. The "wings" on the center walls appear to accomplish that. If the answer is 10...how did this COF get approved?

Scot pulled me out of the fire with Area 8. I was sick in Kuwait (leg infection from a fall I took while videoing a local match) and was pretty much out of commission. Scot stepped up with Homer Simpson. As you all know, I am partial to Lara Croft.

It is amazing to me how all of this has caught on from the time Angel Medina and I got turned on to this tool by the guys in Thailand.

Scot makes some cool videos by incorporating the models into the video. Just search for "Pigdawg" on YouTube.

Best regards,

Jim Taylor

These are not the diagrams that were submitted for approval.

Could you add everything to one file and then upload that?

Either way please let me know if you post the complete collection somewhere.

I owe you a ton of thanks for all the models! I build my own walls each time by simply drawing on the ground where I want them and then extruding them upwards.

I've been using sketchup for the past 6-8 months now. Nothing fancy but Battle in the Bluegrass stages got sent in using it and I do all the local matches using it. It takes a bit of a learning curve but once you get the hang of it, its not to bad.

That is really cool. I tried using sketchup for other applications but I am no computer wizard.
"As to the species of exercise, I advise the gun. While this gives [only] moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprise, and independence to the mind. Games played with the ball and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun, therefore, be the constant companion to your walks."

I love this program. I use it for stage design as well (and I use Jim's work a ton as well), but I use it as my final step. I printed off little 1"x1" versions of all the props and targets, and I sort of "sand table" them until I have a good idea of what I want to do, then I fire up the computer.

These are really neat.

Now I just need to design a stage to include a CATAPULT - Roman onager!

Nice work.
