Whipped up some test loads in preparation for the nationals. I normally shoot 200 gr lswc and titegroup, but it is very dirty. I picked up a couple lbs of N310 from a friend, so I figured now is as good a time as any to use it. I loaded up 20 rounds at 3.9, 4, and 4.1 grains. I was expecting to make major with 4.1, but it was 161 PF according to my CED Millenium chrono. This was out of a 5 inch 1911. I'm going to whip up some more loads, 4.2 and 4.3, and test again on Thursday.

What powder charge are you guys using to make major?

Guys I apologize. Just saw that I posted a very similar topic a few months ago and got some great info, and then forgot about it. Just found my old thread, so I'm off to the races tomorrow with the reloading press.

It sounds like you came up with a recipe that worked?

I'd be curious to find out what 310 charge you ended up with. When I recently loaded some 230mg loads over 310, I had a similar experience. I believe I ended up at about a 163pf at the max charge in the Vit guide. I went to N320 to get to major (I only had one night to load so I went the safer route since I was out of time). But, I've always liked the recoil impulse of N310.
