Felt like I was ready to shoot in the Area 8 Match! Shoot 8 out of 11 stages and am feeling like I'm doing pretty good! Walk over to 9th stage and due to the fact that there were not tables at the berms and I was tired of bending over I decide to clean/reload mags at a table over to side of berm. Can anyone say SAFE AREA!!!!!! Never touched or thought about my STI!? One guy even comes over & talks to me while I'm blissfully cleaning & filling mags! Just finishing up and getting ready to walk away when a guy in a golfcart pulls up and gives me the bad news! WHAM!!!! I put my head down, made the long walk to my truck and the longer drive home (250 miles). I had never been DQ'd for an AD or anything else and thought I was such a smart/safe shooter!!?? What a brain-lapse!!?

So the table was a safe area? Was it marked? That had to hurt. But at least, and I know it is not much, you got to shoot most of the match. You were a safe shooter all day. So I think you did much better than you probably feel you did right about now. Sorry for your DQ, now pick yourself up and dust yourself off and get back to it.

Sorry to hear about your DQ. I was about to do the same thing last year at the Nationals when 45DV8 spotted me and saved me some serious consequences.

I agree. If it's not marked as a safe area, game on.

Yeah, it was marked. I looked right at the sign and in my head thought someone might get upset that I was in the way of someone who might want to do some gun related stuff! In my head I was "borrowing" the table for a few minutes, not using the safe area. Must have been the humidity!? :surprise:

I here ya, at the area 3 match I parked my hand cart close to a table and went to get me mags out, I wasn't going to go to the table but the RO for the stage walked over and said I wasn't at the table to just to make sure no one questioned me he advised I park some where else. After that I always stayed wide of the tables. Tough lesson.

I feel your pain! Gotta feel better than DQ'ing while shooting a stage, though.

Ouch...that hurts....sorry for the long drive home, but it's better than an unsafe act during a stage. I remember years ago when the rule was no ammo in the safety area at all and was surprised that they'd changed it after coming back to the sport. :surprise:

Sorry to hear you earned a DQ. It sucks to do it at an Area match.....I speak from experience except a loaded gun came out of my holster during a stage. Sounds like you handled things well and I bet you'll not have that same mental lapse again. I know I've almost done the same thing (without thinking) before a buddy stopped me.

I feel your pain. My little brother was gone to finish his final year of duty for a year, comes back to finally shoot with his older brother at a local Level 2 match. At the end of his run, on his very last stage, he is taking his gear off pretty ecstatic to finally be shooting again. He takes his magazines off his belt, and places it on the table next to his bag. RO walks over and advises him that he just DQ'd as we were packing up to get on our way home. Welcome home! sucks

With his young baby, it may be a long while before he gets another kitchen pass.

Rowdy-Finn, bummer, sorry to hear that.

Sounds like you're not getting enough Krispy Kreme's up there.

Take care :)

I'm starting a new thread in the rules section to ask about this. If he'd completed the last stage of the match I'm not 100% certain that he could be DQ'd at that point because he'd finished the match. To avoid thread drift I won't add more, but you can see the thread in the rules section. R,

I don't know. Hope I can't make that comparison anytime soon! I kind of remember a TV show when I was a kid, I think it was called "Branded"? This was back in the early or mid 60's I think. Anyway the show started every episode with the cavalry troops standing outside the fort, as the drums are rolling a lone soldier walks out of the fort towards the officer. When he reaches the officer the drums stop and the officer takes the guys sword and breaks it in half over his knee. He's getting kicked out for doing something real bad. The theme song starts and the show goes on with his adventures fightin' bad hombres armed with a pistol and half a sword. Now I know how he felt!! But the good news is I plan on learnin' how to use my half-sword just as good as he did !!!!!!!!

Hey DonT ! No I've not had a good fresh Krispy Kreme at a match since I left HI. Maybe you're right! A few of those and my head woulda' been dartin' left and right and I wouldn'ta gone near that darn table!! Next time.

If you shoot long enough you will probably be DQ'ed. As I have heard many people say, "there are two types of shooters, those that have DQ'ed and those that will be DQ'ed". Mine was a AD on the last stage of a match. I am also a CRO and have had to DQ plenty of shooters including Master and Grand Master shooters. No one is immune to being DQ'ed. Look on the bright side. You already have been DQ'ed so you do not have to worry about your first DQ. Learn from it and keep having fun with your shooting.

That's my plan. I will keep going and actually am a little relieved to get the first one over with although I still have to wait for the first while shooting!?

"Wait for the first while shooting" That's really a poor sentiment. Do what you have to NOT be DQ'ed ever again. The quote about "two types of shooters" is really just a poor cliche.

And don't forget about the buttons. They cut off his buttons. It was like total humiliation. But the guy knew he had not done anything wrong and worked hard to make a strong come back. We can all learn from this experience.
