When you get to Las Vegas just pick up the phone book. I can't think of the name of the one that I went to when I was there last. They had an indoor range and a lot of rentable (?? is that a word)
guns available including machine guns. Don't spend all your time in the casinos. There's a lot to see just outside town.http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=89961&hl=Las+vegas

Enter machine gun shop las vegas as the search string in your web browser and you will find several options. I went to the Gun Store and they were good for firing machine guns not available in Australia. Other stores may have a greater range of firearms - I didn't have time to investigate as we were on our way to the Grand Canyon. Go to them all and report back on your findings. :)

I hope you are really joking about Chicago, handguns are not allowed in Chicago or even a gun store. No Joke.

While in Chicago, you'll have to do some driving. Depending on where you'll be, you can cruise out to Elgin (45 minutes from Downtown to the Northwest on I-90) and go to GATs or Megasports down in Plainfield (that a good hour to the Southwest). Both of those guys have significant selections. If you go to GATs, there's a Cabela's out that way too. If you go to Megasport, there's a Bass Pro.

I hope someone can provide information to Sandman regarding how to transit Chicago without getting in trouble. I only know enough not to go there unless I absolutely have to. (like two weeks from now), but I won't be traveling with firearms, so that at least is not a concern.

and Midwest Guns in Lyons
FYI... GAT guns , Midwest guns and Megasports have indoor ranges

sandman_sy

you have picked the 2 extreme opposite gun states to visit , Nevada is very gun friendly and Illinois is the most gun unfriendly more so Chicago ,CrOOK county

The problem is "In Transit" If you have a delay in flight that requires you to stay over, you are IN TRANSIT, taking a week to visit the area is not covered. to the best of my knowledge. Is there any one here from Illinois Firearms Owners Association?

i understand now what you mean travel thru vs. staying for week on vacation in chicago

my 1st and easy reply would be do not stay at hotel in city of Chicago ....
stay in suburbs west of Chicago , keep firearm unloaded and cased and locked in trunk of car while not in hotel ..

i know this is easy to say but dont have good legal answer other than stay out of Chicago with handguns rest of Illinois is not a problem...

possibly locate FFL to hold firearms for the week stay ?????

Thank you everyone for pointing out that Chicago is a not so friendly city.. iwas just thinking of sight seeing.. and more important.. buying a scope :)

Is that legal?? in chicago?? i am in love with the TR-24 from Trijicon or a NXS from Night Force for my 3 gun rifle(red dot just don't work even with magnifier)...

I get to chicago first.. then to Vegas.. so if i buy the Scope and put it in my check in baggage.. is that a problem when i go to Vegas?? will TSA ask for documents or FLL?? sorry guys.. im not a Citizen of your Great Country(I wish i was).. and kinda ignorant to the laws and policies.. ive read some TSA rules from their website.. but nothing about scopes...

You shouldn't have any issues with scopes since they aren't regulated in anyway that I know of. If you'll be in Plainfield, as mentioned by somebody else, there is also a Gander Mountain that should have a decent selection. Oh, and according to my calendar, the Oak Park Sportsman's club (which is actually in or next to Plainfield) is having a local match on the 8th, so you can get a little more practice in. :)

Definitely Stop in at Megasports. You will not need to stop anywhere else in IL as Mega has the largest selection in IL.

Unfortunately, there is no match at Oak Park Sportsman's Club on Sept. 8th. The USPSA match is on the 13th of september.

I dont know how it would apply to a visitor from out of country but I know that you cant ship scopes out of the country without permission. It falls under ITAR

Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will chime in but here is a link http://www.pmddtc.st...r_official.html

I wish my memory was better. At the SHOT show almost 2 years ago I stood in line waiting to check into the hotel. Behind me in line was a guy that owned a gunshop in the Chicago area. We had a nice chat and during it I found out his shop was consistantly among the top in the USA for getting new members to sign up for the NRA
