you must be bored to ask this question, it's like asking for a 1/2 full or 1/2 empty glass.

SV of course!

Hmm how about a Grandmaster sent to Benny Hill for him to work his magic :D

Hmmm, are you weighing the differences between an STI factory made Trubor GM to a custom made Benny Open? STI factory guns are pretty good, but they are not custom. I would have to go with the Benny gun. Made to the specs you want vs made to the specs the factory wants is a no-contest IMO.

I'd go with a custom gun from one of a handful of smiths like Benny any day of the week and twice on Sunday! There's no comparison and it's probably more important with an Open gun than anything else (save a Modified gun). Open guns have more stuff to go wrong and more forces in play that all need to be carefully balanced. The GM isn't a bad gun, but it's not a custom gun. R,

Send a FRAME to Benny or another quality gunsmith and then have them build it up.

Tuned TruBor. Shoot the snot out of it. Chrome it when it gets to rattly for your liking. Once you get there, you'll know what you really want in a custom gun...

What Dave (XRe) said or if you're not in a hurry, a little patience might get you a low mileage custom off of the classifieds.

There have been some very good deals.

No question the Benny Hill gun would would be the way to go, unless the Grand Master was way cheaper. Then if it didn't run you could send it to Benny.

I have a GM. I talked with Benny about buying a custom from him before I bought it. I wanted the custom but bought the GM due to timing. Wish i would have waited for the custom.

Don’t get me wrong the GM is nice gun and its capable of shooting better than I can shoot it. However I still wished a few things were different. Then take the money into account. I have darn near as much in my GM with DP Hyper Drive pin, DP mag well, DP tool less main spring rod, mag release, slide racker plus the cut, aftec, DP thumb rest plus drilling, bigger dot and DP enhancement vs a new Benny gun just the way I would want it.

I did get a free shirt that i can't wear with the GM.

I can see both sides of this coin. If money isn't a problem for you then let benny build you up a conservitive open gun. WHen you get to know what you like in a open gun have him work on the one you have or build up another one and keep the first for a back up. If money is a problem then get the GM and have Benny tune it up and then sell it when you know what you want in a custom gun.

If you have unlimited funds-go custom.

Used custom 38SC on the classifieds for good deals. More money for practice!

There's nothing worse than an Open gun that won't run. When I first got into Open, someone told me cheap and Open don't mix. Go custom, it's only a one-time expense, or at least that's what I keep telling myself. :goof:

You'd really pick a tuned TruBor? Listen, I'll make you one heck of a deal on the current Brazos so you can get a TruBor...it's no trouble. :roflol:

A new GM is $3300 street price. Send it to JPL and the price is going to jump a couple hundred bucks.......I think you can get a Benny gun for that much $.

XRE is one of the smartest Open guys I know, his point might just be that the TruBore and the GM are the same gun one just looks a bit better than the other, and that might not be worth the C-Note. Getting the performance pack from Dawson or Brazos is always a good buy then you have some assurances that the gun will run. A set of tuned mags will also help.

If you have the time and the money then a Custom from Benny or another good smith will certainly get you off to a good start as well.

That's what I did. I have no regrets. I had no idea what I wanted to order a custom gun.
The GM comes chromed (most of the $ difference) and that makes it tough to modify if you want to lighten the slide or something.
