So my dad and I have been saving brass for years with the intent of reloading. Since I was bored today I decided to take a look at what we had and I found a large costco laundry detergent bucket full of 30-06 and 7mm Rem Magnum brass... I sorted through it and separated the '06 and 7mm brass and as I got toward the bottom I noticed more and more pieces that looked like they were deteriorating, they had bluish/green spots on them, almost looks like a rifle barrel if you let it go a few days or weeks without cleaning. Are these cases still good? Can I just dump them in the tumbler with some polish and have them come out good as new? I was thinking that the bucket probably wasn't cleaned out enough and some of the detergent was still in there (the powdered kind) when we started dumping cases into it...
Since it's a bucket full, I don't plan on processing it all but I would like to keep anymore from aging like this. Maybe I'll clean it and put it in a cleaned out bucket. How do you guys store your brass before loading? Have you seen this longterm? How can it be stopped?
Thanks
