Searched and found skeeters funny thread about opening doors.  I was wondering where you guys hold the gun when you open doors. Do you keep it at eye/chin level or do you point it down below the level of the door knob?

Thanks.

Up at eye level. Economy of motion.

Up at eye level ready to engage the target as soon as it's visible.

Up, economy of motion, unless 1st target is low. Its also safer up. Less chance of sweep.

Seems like there is a theme here.  :)  Up and ready!

The Burner, in his tapes, talks about presenting the gun from the "high ready" position each and every time he moves from position to position.

Up, closer to the eyes, farther from sweeping the hand.

I keep the gun at eye level and slightly off to the side most of the time.  Last year either the Midatlantic Sectional or the Area * racegun had a stage where the door activated a fairly fast drop turner.  The door opened away from you and had a glass panel in it.  I managed to freak out the guy on the clipboard when I indexed on the drop turner as I approached, then just reached my left hand down and opened the door.  As the drop turner started to activate, my hand came back up, I shot 2 Alphas, and the dropturner disappeared.  At the end of the run I got yelled at...... the guy on the clipboard thought I was going to shoot through the glass!

Excellent replies guys.  I pretty much keep the gun high also when doing something else other than shooting.  However, I was looking at the videos of Saul Kirsh and noted he tends to keep the gun low (in some footage anyway) when not shooting (moving or opening doors).  DANG! This guy can move and shoot!

Anyway, just I figured I'll get your thoughts on this matter and maybe re-evaluate my technique.

Thanks a lot.

:)

To echo what everyone else is saying, stay high.  I do this more to keep from sweeping myself than anything else.

I basically have it almost tucked under my chin(the butt, not the barrel). If it is at eye level, it may be blocking my view.  I have it real close so there is less chance that the door will catch the barrel when I swing it open.

I have the gun pointing about 20 - 30 degrees up from horizontal. If an AD happens I'd rather launch one over the berm than into my left arm.

When I think about it, it makes sense that holding it lower would be better to get into that draw/presentation motion of going from sternum to eye level.

However, safety is always my priority and I feel I'm safer with the gun up high.

When we built our door, we intentionally put the handle lower than normal to help avoid sweeping.

Keep it where you can see it

yelled at because he thought you would... not so sure i'd have been too nice about that. any glass should be removed from the door, to prevent a smart ass like me from saying "hey, i'm tactical i saw i shot" which i wold probabally do if I had the confirmation to believe target needed bullets.

just below 'eye level "high ready" or more specifically o me "where myreload comes from"
