I've seen several different OAL's for .40 but often it's without reference to the gun.

From what I can tell, the specification for .40 S&W is for a 1.135 OAL, but I've seen references down to 1.120 and up to 1.145. I try and load to 1.135 but I've had occasional feed problems at that length. It's also occurred to me that the difference between this high and low is so small (0.025) that I wonder if it makes much difference one way or another.

For those shooting a G22/35 is there any consensus as to a good consistent OAL to load to. (FWIW, I'm using N320)

I load to 1.133 for my 35 and it runs great. I'd recommend 1.130 to 1.133 for successful results. Hope this helps.

I've shot thousands of rounds at 1.135 in my g35, mostly Laser Cast 170 gr. SWC. The bullet profile will make a difference but you should be close to 1.135

I load to 1.135 in my 35 with Precision Delta 180's. Never had any issues due loading to this length.

Hello: I load to 1.140 OAL with Precision and Montana Golds. No problem at all with factory barrels. I can also shoot these in my 1911's and 2011's. Thanks, Eric

Well, it looks like anything from 1.13 to 1.14 will work just fine. I'm going to have to try some loads at various OAL's and see if there is any difference in the FPS or if one length gives a more consistent reading than another - I doubt it but since I'm switching from Production to Limited, it's all part of the due diligence.

I've ran the 185g RN SWC for 1911 from Laser Cast all the way out to 1.155 before. Basically seating this bullets shoulder flush with the case mouth. I've never had an issue with these in my G35 with a Lone Wolf bbl. I had a thousand of these sitting around from a previous project and decided to use them up. Then again, I only use these for practice (just in case).

In my competition loads, I stay in the 1.135 to 1.140 range.

I keep mine just below or at 1.13. Supreme reliability!

I have no problems whatsoever running F/P or JHP @ 1.135 in a G-35. That said, I settled on 1.130 for most bullets since I don't run "hot" and the groups are good...seems to me 1.130 is the "sweet spot".

I have also had good luck with 1.135 and Precision bullets in my G35.

I've run 1.100 to 1.145 without feeding issues related to the round.

I started at 1.135, using the MG180JHP. I loaded shorter bullets to shorter OAL in an attempt to keep the internal case ballistics close (seemed to work, velocity wise). I had some MG180JHP 1.200 Limited ammo for a 2011 pattern gun that I shortened up for use in the 35 that runs fine.

I have a Storm Lake barrel in my G35. I am using Magma 180 Gr lead bullets cast from WW and I have settled on 1.130 OAL for 100% reliability.

I load 40 for my G35 Glock and SV. I need to seat the bullets in the Glock way shorter than in the SV or the slide won't return to battery. The "throat" of the Glock's Lone Wolf barrel is tighter and the bullet will touch the rifling if not seated to factory length. As for the SV, the throat is looser and I can load to 1.2 or more which makes feeding from the "not designed for 40 length cartridge" mags more reliable.

+1, I use 1.130 for all of mine. G22 stock and with a Wilson fit barrel, G27, G35 stock and with a fit Bar-sto.

I load 1.135 and 1.145 with a lone wolf barrel, and have had no issues. I found that I have a mag that does not like to feed semi wad cutters.

I've ran an OAL of 1.135 in all 4 of my glock 40 cal guns and they all function perfectly. If we are talking OEM barrel and mag here, I would suspect other problems and not the OAL.

Would it be possible to share your load data for N320? Thanks!

I loaded up some ammo with 4.5 gr N320 under MG 180 CMJ using a stock barrel in a Glock 35. I just switched to a KKM barrel and it's running slower for some reason so I'm going to try 4.6 and 4.7 this weekend.

IN the Speer Manual they list OAL at 1.120". I've measured factory ammo (Fed. American Eagle, Blazer Brass, Magtech) and they are around 1.125".

Personally, I load to 1.128" - 1.130" and have no problems with either a stock barrel OR with my Lone Wolf Barrel (which has a tighter chamber).

With the 1.128" OAL, I can run a 180gr Zero bullet over 5.2gr's of UNIQUE. They run between 165 - 170pf and are milder than factory.

hope this helps.
