I will prove my newbie status here...
With only one match under the bridge, how do I figure out what the penalties were for so as to work on improveing (eliminateing) them?
Also I know it is an average from 4 classifiers, 2 of which were shot at the match.
I can only identify one of those so far going through the classifier lay-out list.
Long Range Standards
Problem is, what happens if I screw up next couple cassifiers like I did this one?
Screwup defined; match Stg % was 44.86, but classifier Stg % was 96.59 % !?
I sure dont need a master class card just getting started!

Your percentage at the match on the stage that happened to be the classifier...is just your percentage for that match.

It's not your classifier percentage. Your hit factor for that classifier stage will get sent into the national database and that hit factor will be compared to all the other hit factors ever shot. That will get you a percentage on your classification file...which can be found on the USPSA website (punch in your member number to see your classificaton file).

On classifiers....people can do two things... They can worry/think about them or they can just shoot the. Those that worry/think about them, often tank.

How do you figure your penalties? Look at your score sheet? You should be checking your score sheet after every run. If you don't understand something on there, ask the RO to explain it.

You probably only shot one classifier at the match. Most local clubs run just one classifier stage. You may have shot another stage that looked like a classifier, but probably wasn't. (Clubs will also run a "special classifier match"...usually once a year. They will have 4+ classifiers in most cases.)

Common penalties are:

- getting a miss on a target, including shots into "hard-cover"
- hitting a no-shoot (penalty) target
- failing to engage a target (this will also earn misses...bad mojo)
- shooting while foot faulting a line

So, get all your hits by shooting the proper targets. Shoot all the proper targets. Do all the from within the defined shooting area.

One way to check your penalties for the match is by going to the results posted at USPSA.org and click on your membership number. This will show all your hits and penalties for the match. It's a neat feature and very revealing.
