Today I went to chrono some rounds before rm3g and ran into this problem. LC brass on the 2nd firing,24.5 gr varget and 69 smk. Been using this combo for awhile and never ran into this. The rounds check good in a wilson guage and I even had 1 that wouldnt chamber in the gun but it checked good in the case guage.
The only thing about this thats different is that I let someone else size and trim the brass because I was too lazy. This brass fits the case guage fine unloaded and loaded. Any ideas on what I should check first?
Thanks for your help,
shane

Check you chamber and make sure it is clean.
Measure some of the brass and make sure it is to spec.

Considering the amount of fancy equipment now seen in competition, some readers have complained loudly that the 'average guy' does not have a chance. It might be pointed out that this average guy never has had a chance. Competition is held to determine what is best, not what is average. And if all the equipment were standardized, the man who won would still not be in any sense average.

The gun is clean so I dont think thats it. I looked at the cases closer and it doesnt look like the shoulder is pushed back as far as some sharch brass that I have or some that I have done myself.
Could this be possible and still pass the case guage? I am thinking about resizing this again and trying to push the shoulder back just a bit. What is the proper way to actually measure setback?
Thanks again

Is the casehead getting ripped off or could it possibly ripping free after a casehead rupture due to being slightly out of battery when the round detonates?
I would find some known ammo (read factory new) and see what happens.
If your shoulder to case rim length is actually too long then it may be causing the out of battery detonation.
Measuring setback...are you talking about bullet setback of shoulder setback on the resized brass?
If its the shoulder then you can use one of these...

Do you have a .223 Rem or .223 Wylde or 5.56mm NATO chamber?

Its a sabre 18 in with I believe a 5.56 chamber. I have shot this gun for a year with no problems and now today this. The case sticks and it rips the rim off.Its never happened with factory, scharch or my handloads but I cant figure out why this new brass is doing it. The rounds fit the case guage unloaded and after loading so I am just confused.
