I already own a .308. I'm thinking of getting an AR-10, and loading for it. How much per round does .308 cost at current prices?

VS 5.56/.223?

Thanks,
Jeff

Dear ATF,
Since guns are so dangerous, I threw all of mine in the Gulf of Mexico yesterday. If you're here to collect mine, I don't have any. Thanks for stopping by.

Well, let's see- per round: (today's prices)

brass .10- .13
primer .03- .04
bullet .16+
powder varies, but figure about .17

That puts you at about 49 cents +/- per

For .223

brass .08
primer .03- .04
bullet .09+
powder .08

About .28+ for these.

YMMV

Figure the first time cost to be 50% of factory ammo. As you reload the brass (used to be the most expensive component, but no longer), you'll save even more subsequently (i.e. omit the cost of brass out of the total component cost).

Used to be up to 75% savings, not so much these days as the bullet has become the most expensive component.
