I have been reloading everything on my Dillon 650 for over 15 years and that is all that I really know. However a couple of years back someone gave me a Lee Challenger Press. Since I don't have a need to pump out thousands of 44 Mag or 25-06 shells I thought I would put the Lee to good use. Why outfit the 650 for something I only need a few hundred of each year. So I went and picked up the dies and even bought the RCBS powder measure because I didn't like the Lee plastic measure.
I had everything else that I needed along with shell holders, or so I thought I had shell loaders. I set everything up and then found the correct shell holder and went to place it on the ram. However after a quick look there was no way this shell holder was going to attach to the ram.
I think if I understand it right these flat shell holders are for the hand held priming unit? So my question is do I need Lee shell holders for the press or could I use another brand since there isn't any place local that carries Lee products? What exactly would these shell holders be called?

The flat shell holders are for the Lee Primer. I would suggest getting the Lee primer. It is faster and more convenient to prime with it than on the press (I used to prime my cases while watching TV).

Give a call to Lee Precision, they are very friendly people and they will provide all the answers you need to know to set up your Challenge press.

The shell holder for the Autoprimer and the shell holder for the Lee press are different. In order to single stage load, you need both shell holders. Sadly, by the time you're done, you might discover it would've just been easier to get a conversion for your 650.

Any brand regular shell holder will work on the press. I use Redding's on my Lee single stage all the time. Grab whatever you can get locally and you'll be good to go.
