So I am having this discussion with the wife about why our guns POA/POI are different when we switch guns

I am right eye, right handed, my wife is left eye, right handed, My Dad Left handed, left eye.

If either of them shoot my guns, they always shoot to the left by a few inches. If I shoot theirs, it always shoots to the right. (around 50ft shooting distance)

So what causes this difference? The relationship of the sights and target are the same, your eye should be in the same relationship, everything is a straight line.

I say the difference is how we preceive the sights, the way they see the sights is what causes the shift

She says its because they are using their left eye, and the physical distance between the eyes will cause the POA/POI shift

So what say you?

Thanks

I say if the gun is sighted in correctly... they will shoot straight regardless of which hand/eye combo you use. I am left eye dominant and right handed. When I shoot my gun is literally just a few inches to left compared to you. I've had people shoot my gun that are right hand/right eye and the bullets still go where they should.

Do you also notice this during real slow fire?? I guess there could be astignatsms (SP) that could screw things up.

Oh one more thing... I assume that everyone is REALLY shooting with their dominant eye correct? One thing to check would be to see if their groups are the same using just their dominant eye with both eyes open, then just their dominant eye with their other eye closed.

I teach NRA Basic Pistol... you'd be baffled to find out what some people really do.

One last thing... really. Are you talking about iron sights or red dot? If it's red dot sights there are things that can cause the POI to change depending on where you look at the lens! I can't remember what it's called.

Luggy,

You were at my practice when I was shooting my MP and my wife was shooting Open, She had to hold off the Poppers with my MP to hit them, when I shot her Open, I had to hold off also, just to the opposite side.

This happens with both iron and red dots. so it not just parallax error

It happens when we shoot groups also

Did you try it each with just your dominant eye open? When you open the other eye (while still using the dominant eye)- does anything move?? Next time I can get to your practice I'd love to check it out.

Gene and I use the same guns. When I use his or he uses mine- there is no difference. He's right eye/right handed, I'm left eye/right handed... but then again- we're using a Glock... and they don't have these problems. :)

Could this be a trigger pull issue and the sights are just set to counter that ?? Oh wait,
then it should be backwards ?? I'm intrested in what would happen off a sandbag ??
