Has anyone had experience with these three bulk mil-spec bullets sold by Widener's? They're not Sierra and I know you get what you pay for, but if there is not an enormous difference in quality it might make good quality practice ammunition.
MIL-SPEC 30 CAL 168GR BTHP MATCH BULLETS $93.00 per 500
MB118 MIL-SPEC 30 CAL 175GR FMJBT SNIPER BULLET $95.00/500
MB2275HP 500 22CAL 75GR HPBT $65.00
Thanks,

Mil-spec bulk bullets from Widener's?

Strangely enough I have bought all three of those bullets.
They are made by Privi Prtzn.
I didn't get around to accuracy testing the 168's and the 175's. I'm basically switching to 155's for .308 and I'm actually going to be more of a .243 shooter in MOR. The 168's and 175's are either going to gather dust or I'm going to use them as close range bullets when I shoot HM (I shoot 155's for long range).
I use the 75's for my long range load when I shoot Tactical(Scope) in 3 gun. Personally I think they are the best heavies for 3 gun in terms of getting the most bang for your buck.
From my guns:
18" 1x8
DATE POWDER CHARGE CASES OAL PRIMER VELOCITY STD DEV # RDS FPS/GR PF RNGE GROUPS 3 4 5 SHOT
8/8/08 Reloder 15 24.1 Scharch LC --- CCI 2675 17.6 5 111.0 201 100 0.31 0.70 1.3
8/8/08 Reloder 15 24.5 Scharch LC --- CCI 2748 35.4 5 112.2 206 100 0.46 1.13 1.6
8/8/08 Reloder 15 24.5 Scharch LC --- CCI --- --- --- --- --- 100 0.28 0.66 0.9
3/14/08 Reloder 15 24.8 Scharch LC --- CCI 2765 16.9 5 111.5 207 100 1.7
3/14/08 Varget 25.0 Scharch LC --- CCI 2743 17.0 5 109.7 206 100 1.60
20" 1x9
8/14/08 Reloder 15 24.5 Scharch LC 2.25+ CCISR 2740 5 111.8 206 100 0.74 0.90 1.32
The 75's stabilize in my 1x9.
I don't really load for the utmost in accuracy. I'm sure you can tweak your load to get better than the 1-1.6" 5 shot groups that I'm getting. I basically loaded for max book, see if they shot at least 2" then I chose the fastest combo.
For a frame of reference the 18" shoots 1.3 MOA with Nosler CC 69's and 25.8 Varget.
I've used a BC of .340 with the 75's and they are pretty much on with the typical targets that are used in three gun. They start to hit differently from what Exbal says at around 500 yards.

I picked up the 2000 count box with free shipping. Pretty good bullets to this point. However, still working on loads. Hoping to get these around .5 MOA.

That's great information folks!
I'm trying some 155s in my LTR with 40x trigger in the next few weeks. So far it hasn't shown a significant preference for either 168 or 175 SMK or Nosler. However, my local range only goes to 300 yds. and I suspect the preference for weight and bullet type would be much more evident at longer ranges.
If the rifle doesn't show a marked preference for 155's then these PRIVI bullets would provide an economical opportunity to get more practice on mechanics in various positions.
I also appreciate the load data...I use RE-15. I'd like to try another powder this summer, but Varget is impossible to find at this point. Have you used Benchmark or IMR 4895?
Thanks,
