I get 3000 with 24.5 in my 18 in Lothar Walter. I think that load was about 2980 in my 18 in DPMS. That was with 55 gr Montana Gold.----------Larry

24 gr of AA2230 and 55gr hornady or montana gold fmj + winchester small rifle primer gives me right around 2900 fps from a 16" S&W AR. could go higher, but i'm reloading mixed commercial and military brass and would rather have a tad more safety margin then the extra 100+ fps.

I've used 24.5g, and am using 25g now. Both were accurate, and worked well. 25g got me alittle bit more velocity, maybe 50 fps.

I settled on 24.0 after groups started to open up as the powder charge increased from my LMT barrel. One of my favorite loads with a Hornady 55gr @ 2.20 OAL.
