Anyone have any opinions about the EO Tech 557 reticle with respect to clutter, etc? I was thinking about buying one and using with the 3x magnifier, but had some concerns about the clutter in the reticle. Can you see the dots without magnification and can you see the center dot clearly enough for CQB type set-ups.

I didn't know if you had to use the magnifier to utilize the ballistic dots fully.

I'm running the 557AR223 with a 4x magnifier. I'm really starting to like this setup. Without magnification my eyes can make the dots out, but consentration is needed to do so. I personally am not distracted by the other dots. Use it like a post. At magnification is where it really matters anyway.

My first 3gun match went great running this setup. But, I've always liked the EOTechs.

I had the 557 and got rid of it. With no magnification the reticle is cluttered and the dots arnt very defined. If you have anything less than perfect vision the dots are not useable without magnification. You really can't use the dots for distance without a magnifier as they will run together. With a magnifier they clear up and are more defined. I went with a standard 65 moa circle and 1 dot and it shoots quicker for me at least than the 557 did. Even with the magnifier is is a compromise. I use mine for close/mid range only. If its distance a low power variable scope is better than the eotech, magnifier combo.

I use a 511 on my carry carbine and love it. I'd like to use the same set-up on my 3 gun and thought maybe the ballistic reticle would really work with the magnifier. The magnifier with the regular 65 circle doesn't seem to offer much.
