I have a remington 700 tactical with a badger base, and a nightforce 5-22 56mm scope. Which height rings do I need to mount the scope as close as possible to the rifle.
I'm sure its been covered before, but I am no good at using the search function.
Thanks

Bacon,
It isn't a clear cut answer because it depends on the ring manufacturer you go with. With a 56mm objective my guess would be that you would need medium rings with most manufacturers. The best solution is to give the maker's you are considering a call and see what they recommend. Most of them have a pretty good knowledge of all the mix and match that goes on for rings, bases, and scopes.
Good luck, Craig

Considering the amount of fancy equipment now seen in competition, some readers have complained loudly that the 'average guy' does not have a chance. It might be pointed out that this average guy never has had a chance. Competition is held to determine what is best, not what is average. And if all the equipment were standardized, the man who won would still not be in any sense average.

It's hard to be totally certain, not knowing what the OD of your bbl is. I agree with Craig that Badger Medium rings should be a nice fit. You want the scope to be as close to the centerline of the bore as possible, and you also want a comfortable and more importantly REPEATABLE cheek weld. I wish NF made a 42-44mm scope personally, and I have campaigned that with them often. It didn't get me exactly what I wanted, but it did get me a 32mm, which is the PERFECT hunting scope.
