Hi all, just ordered 148 gr double ended wadcutters from S&S Castings. He said most are using 3.1 grains of 231 for target loads. My Lyman manual doesn't list a 148 grain for 38 special. The Hodgdon 2008 basic reloaders manual shows it to be 4.0 gr for 148 gr hollow base wadcutters. Does the 3.1 sound right? What is your experience?

I have shot many of ZERO's 148 HBWC out of my S&W M14 using 3 grains of WW231. I'm using it for fifty foot Bullseye.
Using a 152 grain cast LRN with a .358 diameter out of a Lee mold in 38 spl brass I have used 4.5 grains with easy extraction out of a S&W M15. This might be Plus P territory.

For reference 4.2 grains of 231 under a 158 grain SWC is listed as max for a standard 38 spl.

Go to the Winchester reloading website, they list many WW and Hodgdon's powders and various weight bullets.

Now is a good time to buy your kids a drill press and your Wife a vice.
