I have been reading threads and articles that some people who are die hard glockers have been switching to the M&P, saying they have faster times and so on. For people that have compared both, what gets you a better hit factor?

I tried both but the Glock works better for me. Of the 5 MP 9mm pistols I have owned only one was realtively accurate. The rest were erratic so to speak. The grip angle is nice but it seems to round and I suspect that contributed to my accuracy problems with an inconsistent grip.
I prefer the simplicity of the Glock. The parts are cheap and easily obtained. Hope this helps

The M&P Pro, no doubt about it. I've got five Glocks and I've shot a bunch of others. They all point high for me, beat the tar out of my knuckles and simply don't feel quite right. The front strap is too square and something about the backstrap causes a pressure point on the inside of my right hand thumb at the base....that area winds up bleeding if I shoot any of my Glocks too much and when I get a callus, it just breaks off after a while and bleeds. I can shoot them okay, but it just never feels the way the M&P does in my hand.

I've heard some problems with accuracy on the earlier Pros, but mine with AAA 147gr JHP (Team Glock load) seems to be more than up to the task (25yds off a rolled up towel rest with so-so lighting that I think caused me to string them vertically a bit):

I haven't voted yet, because I haven't taken the time to shoot my Pro and G34 side by side on the clock, but, I did compare my G35 with my standard M&P, .40, and according to the targets I was more accurate with the M&P, and according to the timer I was faster with the M&P.

I have a Glock 17, S&W 99 and S&W M&P9Pro. They all shoot well and have been totally reliable. I prefer the triger pull and ergonomics of the S&W's over the Glock.

Like the forum administrator said (I'm not quoting) in regards to Production guns.

Glock = Coke

no one = Pepsi (yet)

all others = Dr. Pepper :goof:

And I believe he's dead on. Pretty funny too.

.....

Still, at the end of the day a solid "A" shooter with a Dr. Pepper should beat me and my Coke.

Lets see...I've owned a standard M&P9 and a longslide M&P9 in addition to my Glock 17 and 34. I've got pretty big hands and I regularly experience the same problems G-Man mentioned when I shoot Glocks. If I don't tape the part of my strong hand to the right of the web the slide bites me pretty good in recoil too....in fact I have a pretty sweet scar on that part of my hand from the many times it has happened. With all those problems I was excited when the M&P pistols came out. The first time I handled one I was immediately impressed with the way it felt in my hand and the way it pointed for me. It was love at first sight. Unfortunately, I was not one of the lucky folks who got an accurate example of the M&P 9mm pistols. I was fast with it and it handled great, but when the distances got greater the hit factors fell a bit. I struggled with it for a while, trying different loads but I never stumbled on anything that would shoot better than 5 inches at 25 yards. So, back to Glock I went, and I haven't looked back since. That being said, if I could get my hands on an M&P that shot more accurately, I am certain I would have been very successful with that pistol.

I haven't shot the M&P a lot yet, but I like it a LOT better than the Glock. I really like the M&P. To be fair I haven't shot the XDM, but I have played with one Rich did a little and the trigger was incredible as well as generally feeling good. I hated the original XD, I even sold one I got free, wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole. But, the XDM is a LOT nicer. I'd like to compare the XDM and M&P side by side, they are the only two contenders for me in a poly framed pistol....

I really like the Beretta 92 style pistols and the CZ-75 family of pistols too for Production, don't rule them out.....

I got rid of all the Glocks and replaced them with M&P's. Accuracy has not been an issue, and shouldn't be with a little load development. I love my M&P Pro and will most likely be shooting it for the rest of the year.

I started shooting Production about two years ago with an M&P. I put right at 7k rounds through it and then all of the sudden started having FTE's at least once in every magazine. I tried to remedy the situation but decided to sell it and fall back on my tried and true G34. I've shot the 34 ever since and whole heartedly trust it. Its got 133k rounds through it and its on its 3rd barrel. It got me my GM card. I will always like the Glock for its reliability. But I never shot a gun as good as I did the M&P. It points better, fits me better, was plenty accurate and reloaded much faster than the Glock. I have been real close to jumping back into an M&P Pro now that they are legal. Now that KenD at Speed Shooter Specialties is having parts made for them.....I'm a bit more reluctant to give it another shot. I also always recommend the M&P to new shooters for matches as well as self defense. I've been a fan since they came out.
Speed is Fine,Accuracy is final....but accurate hits at extremely high speed is final much faster.

I have no issues with the G34 or G35. I've have not had an accuracy problem with either pistol. I prefer the simplistics of the Glock and the tried and true durability of the Glock. One thing to consider is at some matches when you change your mag. At IDPA matches indoor sometimes you retain and sometimes you drop your mag on concrete. At some matches I've been at outdoors mags can hit the ground pretty hard and the polymer holds up better than metal only mags. Just my 2cents. :sight:

O.K. I FINALLY voted. It seems that my Pro gets me a higher hit factor than my G34.

I shot a 17/34 for 6 years, most of that being with a 34. Won a couple of M&Ps and sent them to Kenny at Speed Shooters. I shoot them better but I can't attribute that solely to the gun. Taking a class and generally evolving as a shooter is part of it. I also started using the STI platform and I find I can go back and forth much easier with the M&P vs the 34.

Having said that, I had to go back to my 34 early this year due to my 9L not being legal at the time. Shot a 100 practice rds through my trusty 34 and had two good finishes at the NC and SC section matches. It was like picking up an old friend.

I bought a M&P pro, first was the extractor now the striker broke. I am starting to think I should’ve bought the 34.

I guess I will be the next one to have a vote here. My PRO has had enough problems to convince me to order a 34. Time will tell. I'm gonna gear up and run the 34 this coming year. I will probably get the PRO worked on and get it to 100%. If I shoot both reasonably well I will stick with the gun that does what I tell it when I pull the trigger, EVERY TIME.

Hello: I just voted and made it 50/50. I like the Glock better because of the trigger. The M&P trigger feels funny because of the pivot angle. Also the slide feels heavier to me as well. I also like the Glock since I can actually buy parts and make the trigger real nice  Thanks, Eric

Right on G-manBart. I've heard of some problems with M&Ps , most say the 34 is more reliable. I am not sure if the problems of the M&P are design or shooter mods.
Because both my wife and I like the 1911 grip angle and felt odd with the glock grip angle we have two pros. No problem with hers, purchased new. The second we purchased with a broken striker. They are both at Dan B for work. We will see. Voting M&P at this moment.

I think it depends on the person. I shot a glock 22 a lot of years(Recreationaly before I started in USPSA). I did very well with it and liked it alot. When I started USPSA I switched to a single action gun and it actually took me awhile to break some of the habits that I had with the G22. Since then I have owned a couple M&P's and Glocks. I do like the way the Pro sits in my hand, but I really don't seem to shoot it any better then a Glock and nowhere near as well as my limited gun with either!
