Match is indoors 5 stages in the absolute dark, 5 more same lay out altered a bit. with lights on. Dark ones first. My routine on the walk through has been to get the general idea then mark my notebook or stage outline with key points, refreshing just before I shoot that particular stage.

Well the lights went off and never went back on, two relays of shooters shooting all 5 in total darkness, And the "trick" stage that was a memory contest was 4th down the line for me. No way to even watch other guys shoot it. I would have given a 100 bucks to have another light with Red filter so I could have sneaked a peak at the course of fire. What can go wrong will go wrong.

First dark is different, total dark very different.

What I have done is get a small notebook and plan to jot down the essential "trick" parts of a stage after the walk through keeping it in my vest. Home club I get spoiled by helping set up know the stage well and no need to use a memory aid to shoot the match. Plus daylight you can get by on watching the shooters in front go through. Also things like Tactical Priority Slicing the pie etc are basic and you can shoot a stage taking it as you see it. Dark flashlight on the first target you may well miss another target, not see it at all. That did not happen to me but did to many shooters.

With that notebook in my pocket and an extra flashlight with red filter can take a peek just before the stage, no rule against that in the match. This particular stage was true "trick" Shoot through 10 holes at two targets. Procedural's were rampant due to not shooting through the holes in the prescribed order. top to bottom right to left alternating each shot. Put the pistol through the wrong hole and it's a procedural. Many shooters went through the walk through saw what had to be done but got to that stage an hour later with no chance to refresh there memory on the way it had to be shot. Anybody that shot it without Procedural's placed well in overall standing.

Thats what I plan to do.
