Specifically-permitted modifications allowed for ESP & CDP include "Checker or square and checker trigger guard." So, does it seem reasonable to you that they should also allow the removal of these features? So, if I have a gun that comes stock with a squared & checkered trigger guard or that has had the trigger guard squared and checkered as a modification, in your opinion would IDPA have a philosophical problem allowing their removal...with the purpose being to return the trigger guard to a pattern typified by the 1911 govt trigger guard?

My interpretation of current rules is that such a mod would NOT be allowed because it isn't explicitly stated as a legal mod. But the question here is, in your opinion would the IDPA likely add this mod to the rule book if asked to do so?

Based on the spirit behind the criteria for allowing or disallowing mods, I'd think IDPA would have little problem adding this to the mod list.

Thoughts?

In CDP and ESP returning a squared and checkered 1911 trigger guard to the original configuration is just that and therefore allowed. You're not modifying a modification. You're removing an allowed modification.

Do it and be happy. There's nothing wrong with it.
