i search around on the spring kits and theres som many people running different configs. i bought a wolff recoil spring kit 9- 16.5 pound springs and a wollf 19, 20, 21 pound hammer spring kit. i run a springfield 5" .45 167 power factor. factory springs for the last 2 years. 200gr SWC 4.3 clays = 835 FPS 167 PF for me.

1) should i just try the 14 pound recoil spring and call it good?

2) do i need to change the hammer spring too? how do i tell which one?

3) what do i look for when im testing these, just muzzel flip?

i also have a shock buff in my gun too. is there any standard of what combo to run or is it all hit and miss. thanks -chris

In my 45 single stack I run a 12lb recoil spring and 17lb mainspring. I run the same set up in my STI limited gun.

It is all about feel and the way the gun reacts to each shooter. I like the way my set up feels and the way the gun tracks. Everybody is different changing the springs isn't really going to make you shoot any faster, I have not noticed any time saving difference between a 14lb and 12lb spring. If you don't already use a proper grip and stance ext.... it will not make any difference. It is just to get the gun to feel/track better which makes the gun easier to shoot IMO.

There is no miracle spring, recoil reducer ect...... to make you shoot faster.

Other opinions very on this some like 14lb springs others like 10-11lb springs.

Bottom line you have to see what combo works for you and the gun must run 110% with what ever combo you choose.

i was told by a couple that it recoils or flips pretty high for that power factor. they said try some different spring. so i bought those 2 wolff packs to see if it helps or if its more my grip. -chris

You just have to try for yourself everyone is different. I prefer lighter springs as I noted in the above post.

Try going to a 17lb mainspring and then work with your recoil spring from there. It does make a difference in feel and muzzle rise. I never really cared how high the muzzle was rising as long as the sight comes back to the same spot every time with out the dip at the end when the slide closes. This is accomplished by using lighter springs.

Chris

You need to do Matt Burketts timing drills to get your grip and stance right look here.
