On the bigger 3 gun matches, do you guys load your rounds down to minor who would otherwise be shooting major in a pistol only match?? Im curious because I would think for 3 gun, where there is no minor or major, you would be at a disadvantage to shoot major loads. What say ye?? Thanks in advance.

Shoot the same major load I shoot in pistol matches. I'm used to it, the gun runs, and I don't have to worry about messing with the press. I shoot open so the gun doesn't shoot much flatter with minor anyhow. Also there is so little pistol in some of the major IMGA matches these days it is not always a big advantage to shoot minor. Tactical is another story. The advantage comes when you have a 9mm limited gun and gain capacity.

I shoot a Para P16, and it runs pretty good with 5gr of WST and a MG 180jhp. Makes 167 pf, and I leave it alone for three gun matches, mainly because it runs good there. I could probably drop it down a little, and I'm sure the recoil would be softer, but in the heat of the match is it going to make a noticeable difference for me. I don't think I would be able to tell with all that is going on. I know I could drop the powder, and change springs and stuff, but like I said, it runs good, recoil is very manageable, so I choose to simply leave it alone. If I go to a big pistol only match, I will bump the powder up a tenth or two just to make sure I shoot major.

I hate to change my powder load (lazy) but I do load lighter bullets when headed to the outlaw matches for the paper stages. I do bring the heavy stuff in case some crazy match director (Kyle Lamb taught me this lesson the rude way) drops some heavy steel in the match. By definition, few guarantees at "Outlaw Matches".

Same ammo, for simplicity. And it is proven to run. Nothing like driving 400 miles only to find out you brought a single shot handgun.

If I'm going to a 3 gun match that doesn't score for major in pistol I'm shooting my 9mm eagle. If I'm a person that has only one gun I'm shooting it as I have been shooting it. I shoot IDPA with my .40 Single Stack with my major loads when I shoot that gun for practice in IDPA. I've got 9mm guns I could be shooting but I'm used to shooting the .40 at major.

I switch to a 9mm edge if I know the match. Now almost all outlaw matches I shoot the 9mm except the Iron-Man...the double swingers almost demand a major power factor. You can get away with a 9mm but you will pay with time.

I really don't like different loads for my 40...for the same reasons the others have posted.

I shoot a Glock 35 .40. With an after market barrel. I cast my own, bullets, and run a 155Gr RN, Minor, and over the same Powder charge. 3.7TG,, I load a 180TC, that makes Major. Most of the 3 Gum matches I shoot have no PF,, so I shoot Minor on a paper, stage and if the stage has steal that looks like it needs, a bit more help,,, I shoot the major 180"s.

I shoot my IDPA loads when I shoot 3 gun. They are minor but have just enough oomph to run my gun that I shoot in limited. I don't want to bother getting a 9mm just for 3gun, so I give up a couple of rounds by shooting a 40.

I shoot a Glock 34 9mm at any match where major power factor isn't needed, especially Ironman. Having 22 rounds in the magazines is a bigger advantage than a little more push on the swingers, IMHO of course. ;)

Edited for spelling. I HATE typos!

I use a 9mm Edge with a lightened slide for 3 gun and steel matches. I've got a 40 when I want to shoot major at paper matches. The only big match I shoot is the SMM3G and the 23+1 capacity advantage hasn't come into play but there are some local matches where it has.

When I was shooting a .40 at outlaw matches, I found it took much work to shoot different loads and just shot major all the time.
In short, Iraq is not an imperialistic venture, but a messy, underappreciated attempt to make the United States more secure by removing dictators from their petrodollar-fueled arsenals and leaving constitutional goverments in their wake while promoting social justice for the previously marginalized.
