New Movement Drill What do you think??

Last night I was brainstorming about drill that would increase my stage endurance and how I could practice movement drills. I remember the old Shuttle Run drill we used to do in High School and thought that would be a pretty cool platform for a shooting exercise.

Drill 1: Engage all targets from perspective boxes. 3-5 strings

Starting in box A, you pick the starting position. Draw and move to box B engage target with two rounds, move back to box A and engage target with two round, move to box C and engage target with two rounds, and finally move to box A and again engage with two rounds. Rounds count= 8rds, Distance traveled 44 yards. Repeat starting in box C (C-B-A-C).


Drill 2: Engage all targets from perspective boxes. Perform mandatory reloads between each box. 3-5 strings

Starting in box A, you pick the starting position. Draw and move to box B engage target with two rounds, move back to box A and engage target with two round, move to box C and engage target with two rounds, and finally move to box A and again engage with two rounds. Rounds count= 8rds, Distance traveled 49 yards. Repeat starting in box C (C-B-A-C).

There are virtually endless target array options and ways to run this drill. Add in barricades or a small bad to carry. I think this could have some pretty cool training posibilities.

Sounds like cross fit with a pistol. I like it. Maybe I will cruise up to Los Lunas and try this out with you some time.

Another option would be to add another target for each box and focus on shooting the first target as you move into the box and the second target as you leave the box. That way you don't linger into the boxes, kinda like a "hot box" drill! :ph34r:

I like this drill! The only thing I might do different when I set it up is locating box B slightly higher (or lower) so that I minimize my chances of tripping on it when running from A to C (and vice versa).

Or maybe paint box B on the ground to eliminate that risk.

Cool. Do strings at 7 yards and at 15. Lots of possibilities especially with a par time.

Thanks guys- I was thinking of targets at 10 yards then out to 25 yards. Been seeing alot of long range targets out here and I need the practice. :blush:

I like it. I have been looking to setup some movement drills and this is a good one. Here is an idea for a more elaborate extension.

Set up five regular targets around 3-4 yds apart.
Box A, B, and C line up with T1, T3, and T5 respectively.
From box A, fire two shots at T1
While moving from box A to B, fire two shots at T2
From box B, fire two shots in T3
While moving from box B to C, fire two shots at T4
From box C, fire two shots at T5
Reload
Reverse direction and do the same thing

The idea is to transition between shooting from a fixed position and shooting while moving.

looks good, the only think I would do is space the boxes at 8 feet since most walls are that big. Would put some small plates that don't fall in thier also to change it up
