Any suggestions on the right weight recoil spring for a 5" Limited Para in .40S&W using 168 PF 200gr LTC with a full weight slide?

Just looking for a starting point as I have a full set of springs.

Start with the 14#, see how it works and watch how far it ejects. If the spring is too heavy the worst it can do is not completely cycle. Then you can try the lighter springs.

"If you were one of America's Founders, and you'd just surprised the world... by winning a war of secession against the most powerful and heavy-handed government on the planet, and the last thing in the world you wanted for yourself, for your children, or for your grandchildren was to fall beneath the heels of its jackboots again, what would you want the Bill of Rights to mean? And if the first act, under martial law, of that powerful, heavy-handed government had been to try to take your guns away at Lexington and Concord, would you have written a Second Amendment to guarantee its 'right' to own and carry weapons? Would you have written a Second Amendment that was subject to whatever government claims is 'reasonable regulation'? Or would you have written the Second Amendment to forbid government from having anything to do with your guns?"

I use a 14lb recoil spring in my Para P16. If the case falls more than 10 feet away I'd use a heavier recoil spring. If the case falls within two feet I'd go lighter.

Proper answer is... it depends. There is no "right" weight. There is an appropriate weight - for you. A good starting point is 12.5 and then go from there. If you have a rigid shooting style, you'll want a heavier spring. A more relaxed style will dictate a light one.

So, get everything from a 10 to a 15 and experiment.

The Standard is 16 for a Goverment model, with a 19 Lbs mainspring.
On a Commander I use a 18 Lbs Recoil spring and a 21 Lbs Main Spring.
Yet on my Carry gun which I load S/D loads I will use a 20 Lbs and still 21 Mainspring on the commander.
On the Gov. 18 Lbs. recoil and 19 Lbs Main spring.
I judge it by my loads I am going to use.
