I've always like the feel of the smaller framed TZ/CZ clones. But I've got 3 of 4 with cracks at the ejection port. Doesn't effect function, so I'm ignoring it.
Just wonder why this happens with this design, and if everyone, or anyone, has this issue too?

By the way, the top one is an open 9x21, next is .40, and the last is 9mm open.

The barrel hood hits the slide above the breachface. The area where it's cracking appears to be the thinnest area near the force, therefore that's where the crack is. ...They need more metal in that area.

Just wait till the other side cracks and the back of the slide hits you in the face. Seen it happen...

I have cracked slides in the open gun back when I shot 115's with n340. Never had the problem using 3n37 then we all started shooting 340 and within 10-15k we were cracking slides.( I personally cracked 2 in 3 weeks on different guns) Changed back to 3n37 and now I use 3n38 and havent cracked a slide since. Limited gun I havent ever had a problem.

Matt isn't kidding, it is going to hurt like hell/something REALLY bad when the slides finish breaking. Walking away bleeding is a really good outcome from a situation like that.......

I wouldn't shoot ANY of those guns with cracked slides on a bet.

Thanks for all the responses. Thats a bunch of guns to retire, replace or refurbish. Is this happening to other people"s small frame Tanfoglios?
Seems odd its 3 different slides and different calibers.
But y'all are right, I don't need a slide between the eyes.

edit fer spellin'.

I have a Gold Team that I shot for over a year when the barrel lug broke. They replaced the barrel under warranty but the replacement was fit much tighter than the original. The slide cracked within the first 25 rounds fired. They replaced the slide and loosened the barrel fit and it has been fine since, although I have not shot that gun much since the repair.
opinions vary...

It appears to be a design deficiency. They need to get rid of that external extractor and make sure there's a good radius in that corner.

yeah, but the top slide is cracked on the forward end of the port and there is a very generous radius there. I think there is more to this than just the extractor.

Could it be a function of too light of a recoil spring?

A heavier spring will reduce the severity of the force transmitted through the slide, but doesn't fix the issue of a weak area in the part. The original design is almost surely close to limits and then poor material and/or modification to the firearm causes the slide to break.

Gotta figure out how to make things "less violent", within the design limitations.

Just to fill in a few blanks. The top slide (the 9x21) was that way when I bought the gun, haven't any idea what sort of loads have been through it. I've never shot it.
The .40 slide has maybe 10K - 15K major .40 loads through it, some from the 175 power factor days. It has probably just been beat to death. The loads are pretty snappy in a gun of this size.
The last one also came used, but I don't know when the crack showed up. I've put about 5,000 major 9 through it, but have no idea how many billion zillion rounds before I got it. Maybe none, maybe a bunch.

WOW, those pics just woke me up, had to break the .40 out of the safe and make sure, no cracks yet.

Intresting, The slower powders are easier on the parts. Howz the muzzle rise with the slower powder?
