I didn't see a spot for MG rules, so please move this if necessary. When a shooter abandons a shotgun or rifle on a MG stage is that final or can they go back and use it again? I realize it probably wouldn't be worth the effort time wise, but is it legal if done in a safe manner? Is it O.K. to re-ground a gun in a barrel? We had a shooter shoot most of the shotgun targets and put his empty shotgun in a barrel and retreived his rifle. On the way out with the rifle if he had noticed the missed targets, would it have been within the rules to back up, put the rifle back in the barrel, and continue with the shotgun? I'm not sure how I would have called it, but see no problem with it if done safely.

If the stage description didn't say that you couldn't, and the shooter did it safely, I don't see why not. I would guess that it would cost the shooter much more time in doing that, than to just take the miss. Just my opinion.

Mike,

I would have thought you'd have gotten more responses by now.

I just don't know. I'd assume that it was legal. But, I'd have to look it up.

I'm sure I spent at least an hour looking, but couldn't find anything. I guess it must be O.K. if nothing says you can't??? I'm going to send an e-mail to John Amidon here in a few minutes just to be sure.

I saw this happened to Daniel Horner at DPMS a few years ago. He had engaged some rifle targets from a boat and then cleared and dumped his rifle in a dump barrel and then he realized he had not engaged an array of targets. He retrieved his rifle, reloaded, got back into the boat, engaged the target array, recleared and dumped his rifle back into the dump barrel and then completed the course of fire.

He still had a very respectable time on the stage........

Depending on the rules of the match, it could be an advantage to make up the target if possible. If you get a 10sec pen for FTE, along with the 10sec mike, that is a hit to your score. It gets even worse if there are a couple targets that you didn't see. They may have been hidden by trees, barrels, other targets, etc. I gues it would be a quick decision by the shooter to make sure it is worth it, and make sure you aren't going backwards on the scoresheet by trying to clean the stage.

Nothing that says you can't in RM3G rules, But you cannot be holding 2 firearms at the same time. It is common enough that I have heard of it happening, the RO should let you do pretty much anything as long as it is safe and follows the stage procedure.

The answer is yes, you may return to finish shooting as long as it is not prohibited in the stage briefing.
