I just bought a Para 18.9 LDA and am looking for tune-up info. I've seen posts about slicking up the trigger. How is that done and does anyone now where I can get instruction on how to detail strip the gun? I'd like to get a wider thumb safety, flat mainspring housing and maybe mess with the contour on the grip safety. I just don't want to take the thing apart and break something trying to get it apart or back together.
Good rifle, you're going to run this year aren't you? yes you are, you're such a good rifle

You don't want to do that if you're entertaining any thoughts about USPSA Production division.

If the "limited" series gun has wider ambi safeties then can't I upgrade to them on my standard version? I'll have to look over the rules a little more.........

Ok, it looks like the "limited series" safeties would be a gray area, trigger work is allowed, mainspring housing (gray area) would they notice? It says no "external mods" and 2oz. over production weight (tungsten guiderod?). No grip mods (bastards!).

It says no weight attachments allow on mags, what about my 126mm super mags with the big extra capacity base pads? Its not really a weight device and there is no mag length restriction.

I am fairly certain that is a no-no.

EGW does a great trigger on them. Don't try to field strip it beyond normal for cleaning. Made that mistake.
You can run the Tungsten GR. Skate fag tape is ok too. The MSH is something that you'll probably never get called on but would be illegal.

I'd like to know that as well. I have heard it's not for the home smith. BTW: Jay Krauter does trigger jobs, he is the official service man for US Para factory and knows LDA's frontwards and backwards.

Jay: 416-297-7855 (tell him Detlef sent you, he did a great trigger job for me)

no *mix and match* between models is permitted. Cannot take an ambi safety from the Lim model and stick it on your standard 18-9. Non-permitted external mod.

flat mainspring housing is perfectly fine because it is an available factory option (I ordered mine "flat"...).

no grip mods except skate board tape

only magazines in length identical/not longer than those shipped with the gun are permitted in IPSC. It's really not an issue in USPSA because of the 10rd limit, but you could use a 170mm mag loaded to 10 rds (it says "no mag length restrictions") there.

Enforcement at a match is an alltogether different issue. I saw some mighty interesting "Factory Para LDAs" at the FGN.... Not that I felt any of the observed modifications would give the bearer an advantage over me...

oh, and by God don't take that piece apart more than field-stripping. The guts consist of about 1 Mio small parts that have no similarity to 1911s and that, once out, need to be sent to the service center to be put together again.... :(

Thanks for the info Detlef. Another question, at a match do you have to start with the thumb safety "on"? This being a DAO type gun it seems unnecessary. How do the rules look on that?

TMC,
No, because it's double action. If we had to put the safety "on" on the LDA we would have to do it with all the other DA guns with safeties like Smiths, Beretta's, etc.: which we don't.
