I've been going through videos of my shooting matches and performed detailed
dissassembly of my performances. It seems I waste a lot of time in target aquistions.
The transitions are quick but then I stop for a split second to affirm my sight alingment.
What are some good drills to work on this, I'm thinking "really" small targets ???

Please critique some of my videos and tell me where the time is lost so I can work on those
elements, lay it on, I'm serious :P

Thanks

My BS opinion on the video...

1. Consider getting a 1-4X variable. I know... I know... Iron sights rule up close... But if you had a 1X you wouldn't have needed to align the sights.

2. I can't really tell but it seems like your SRTS isn't raised. Have you tried raising it and comparing your times? It looks uncomfortable.

3. I think you need to be a tad more aggressive in your movement from port to port.
Happy birthday to the ground!!!

I'm not a part of your system!!!

I know for anything 25 yds and in, for my rifle, I dont even line up the rear sight, I look over it and just put the front sight on the target and pull the trigger. I know that where I put the ears of my AR sight it will hit about two inches higher than that, takes practice but I even do this on head only targets with on problems........

I'm not talking about up close stuff, 7-15yds wide open targets, those side irons are smoking
fast, faster then a red dot. The targets in question are 20-40yds, and the sights are not uncomfortable, my
ACOG is also mounted low and I have no problems getting to either one with ease.

I dont want to get into gear talk "please", I like what I'm useing, I dont think buying something new is going to
improve my shooting for more then a day. I want to improve "my" skills of stopping on target better. This flows
to pistol and shotgun also. Saving time after already facing the target... <_<

PRACTICE!!PRACTICE!! MOVEMENTS...AGRESSIVE MOVEMENTS AND THEN SMOOTHING OUT THE GUN TO THE TARGETS. I WOULD INVEST IN A .22 UPPER FOR YOUR AR AND 1911 AND SHOOT THOUSANDS OF ROUNDS.

Or a good airsoft setup- even cheaper and you can shoot in your backyard. Saves time and gas- well gasoline... B)

The biggest time killer I see is not shooting on the move. For instance Stage two as you get your rifle and round the car you should have already been shooting the first two targets out of the window on the way up. In the california video we see you run over to the wall, plant your feet, then the gun comes up and then you start shooting. Gun should have been up long before you get to the wall, and the first target or two should have already been engaged. Almost all the shotgun targets should have bee shot moving, if that was allowed, and remember to practice that shotgun loading. Also quit moving so choppy, move only fast enough to see the targets in order you wish to shoot them...no happy feet. Now these are the little things, in general those were fine runs, but with a little smoothing out they will be great.KurtM

Kurt, that is the biggest compliment coming from you !!

I thought I could get away with speeding up my standing positions so
I dont have to shoot on the move !! :roflol: I guess the answer is always
pretty simple, work on what you dont like doing.

What do you mean by choppy, do you mean fast, slow, fast, slow ???
If I read it correctly you mean to keep a medium pace throughout (smoother)???

If you watch the stage 2 you will notice you over run a couple of targets and have to dance back to get them, you also udershoot a couple of targets and have to lunge for them. That is what I call choppy. Once again move only as fast as you can smoothly shoot the targets in the order you wish to. That DOESN,T mean slow or medium or fast. Sometimes it is darn fast, sometimes not as fast, but it is always the pace that allows you to be engaging a target without dancing around to get it. Smooth will always beat choppy! KurtM
