Making safe

I'm going to try 3 gun. I will be starting out with my 11-87, what is the best way to make safe during a transition to another gun. Total newby at shotgun competition. The only way I see to do it is shuck all extra shells thru the chamber. Seems slow plus maybe accident prone. Any help is appreciated. TX Jim

most clubs will allow you to put the gun on safe, and walk away from it. if they don't then you are correct and you will have to "speed unload"
This was an issue a few years ago, but has been addressed by allowing shooters to put it on safe, point it in a safe direction and move on.
the other thing you could do is plan on having as few rounds in the gun as possible at the dump off spot and shoot the extra rounds out, this can be as "exciting" as speed unloading.

I've seen the photographs!!!!!!!!!!!....................Those were drawings!!!!!!!!!!!!...............Whatever! !!!!!!!!!!!
There are reasons and excuses, excuses we make up and tell ourselves and others in an attempt to make us feel better or look better. Reasons are the truth, if we are strong, we learn from them. If we are weak, we make up more excuses.

you've got several good and experienced 3 gunners in MO, you shouldn't have a problem getting some local help, but if you want any from me don't hesitate to ask.

Have fun with 3-gun. Your fun will triple. Your expense will increase by the power of 3!
I wish it were only 3 times the cost. Shotgun and rifle ammo is much more expensive. Travel is usually farther, plus you still tend to go to pistol matches, I'd say cost is 5-6 times. Worth every cent however.

the fun I have and people I meet at 3gun and multi gun competitions are easily more than 4 or 5 times worth it.
For some reason multi gun users and players seem to be more at ease during a match, and better to be around.

USPSA MultiGun rule 10.5.3 goes into great detail.
If the match you shoot does not use USPSA rules, it would be best to ask.
If the match you shoot does not use USPSA rules, it would be best to ask.
"If you were one of America's Founders, and you'd just surprised the world... by winning a war of secession against the most powerful and heavy-handed government on the planet, and the last thing in the world you wanted for yourself, for your children, or for your grandchildren was to fall beneath the heels of its jackboots again, what would you want the Bill of Rights to mean? And if the first act, under martial law, of that powerful, heavy-handed government had been to try to take your guns away at Lexington and Concord, would you have written a Second Amendment to guarantee its 'right' to own and carry weapons? Would you have written a Second Amendment that was subject to whatever government claims is 'reasonable regulation'? Or would you have written the Second Amendment to forbid government from having anything to do with your guns?"

Thanx again for the replies. One of the guys I shoot USPSA with is a good 3 gunner. He's the one who talked me into it. He just live 2.5 hrs. away, so no joy in picking his brain alot. I just dont want to go and do something stupid ( dangerous ). I went out and practiced rifle yesterday Damn it was ugly !!! But I think it's going to be a blast . Thanx again guys.
