I'm not sure if this is the proper place to post this, so MODS please feel free to move it to the more appropriate location.

On July 1 (in 2 weeks!) this new law will go into effect: http://caag.state.ca...flcoverview.php

To recap, any FFL transfering a firearm to a CA FFL (except type 03- C&R & 06- ammo) will need to get a "premission letter" BEFORE the gun is transferred. This affects out of state manufacturers, distributors & dealers shipping to CA FFLs and transfers between CA FFLs. Bottom line: if you are involved in a non-personal transfer (i.e. new gun), you are affected.

Regarding winning a gun at a match, this means more papework & hassle for the donating manufacturer, the match FFL, the shooter winning the gun, and the shooter's "home" FFL. :angry2:

A way to reduce some of the hassles would be to get the donating sponsor to send a certficate for the firearm, which would reduce the paperwork to between the donating sponsor and the winner's home FFL.

The only good news is that there is no additional CA state fee for this letter (YET). Obviously, the businesses affected will have to cover their costs to process and archive these transactions, so you know who ends up paying for them. :(

"Safety" tests, approval lists, microstamping and now this. Well, at least we still have great weather and the Steel Challenge (for now).

Only 9 weeks to go before the most important day of the year!

Practice smart, practice hard and visualize perfection,

Jim

Getting manufacturers to just give certificates is tough. They want the product on the table. Better advertising for their buck. I have quit even looking at guns on prize tables. First because anything I would want to have is probably not approved here. Second, picking a gun to sell later is such a hassle cost and paperwork wise that I may as well move down the table and get something I can use. Works out better economically.

And yes I know, California gun laws suck big time!

For this reason, we will likely stop all transfers to California including new STIs and Bedell Customs. I know the pro-gun citizens cannot outvote the antis in the metro areas. BARRETT, STI, GLOCK, AND NOW THE REST OF US ARE TAKING A STAND.

Isn't that what the antis are ultimately trying to achieve?

Since they cannot technically repeal the 2nd Amendment, it seems that their strategy is to make business dfficult and inconvenience us into just giving up.

Part of being a CA shooter is to NOT roll over and to keep on fighting. If we don't, there will be even more restrictions.

Unfortunately, what happens in CA (regarding firearms & ammo) can be a blueprint for, and have an impact on the future of other states (e.g. MA). It is in the best interest of the rest of the country for us to soldier on.

It's funny how all this legislation has exemptions for law enforcement officers. If the firearms industry would take a REAL stand and not sell guns and ammo to CA law enforcement, this would send a pretty strong message to the antis. (I believe this was Barrett's original intent.) This will probably never happen as LE sales are big $$$s.

The intent of my original post is to notify everyone of the effects of this new legislation and to plan accordingly. It is NOT my intent to turn this into a political discussion.

Still here in CA until either guns are totally outlawed or the "Big One" (earthquake) hits,

Jim
