I have noticed two types of USPSA #'s. Mine is A59030. It has a single letter A in front. Then others are like TY_____. Am I retarded, or does this mean something?

Thanks, Sorry for the weird question.

Not a dumb question, it does actually mean something and I didn't know this when I started:

'A' - Annual Member
'TY' - Three Year Member
'L' - Life Member

They may be others but I'm not really awake yet and can't remember...... :D

FY = five year and then there are the foreign prefixes FA = Foreign Annual etc.

If you "upgrade" from an annual "A" to a three year "TY" does your number stay the same...TY to L?

Thanks in advance!

What happens to the numbers when someone does not renew their membership? Can you get an old number back?

I got my origional USPSA # in 1992 I did not shoot USPSA for over 12 years and renewed and kept my old # TY18956
But it is imbarasing when I go to a shoot and shoot so slow.

A, TY, & FY carry over one to the other. Anything to L does not (except for the goofy CALs, and if you have to ask, you aren't one)

I was sort of disapointed I lost my old number. I had a fairly low number by today's standards, and had it memorized.

I went from a16577 to l2902. I would have been perfectly happy with it l16577.

Blah, oh well. Thats one bill I don't ever have to pay again is how I look at it.

No, Gene. You simply started when there was one division and almost every gun was a single stack.

Even when I started there was only single stacks for the most part and it was run what you brung. Though I was not a member then, maybe, I think I shot my first match roughly 88 or so.

I feel your pain, my annual # was 135, the life is 4 times that. I don't think they had CAL back then though.

At least the Life Membership was a good buy for me, so was the NRA Life.

Anual to three year or to five year, your number stays the same. You will get a new number when you upgrade to life.

I checked the database for the count on some of the interesting prefixes. These counts are for ALL members, not just those with current memberships.

CA - 56
CL - 138
CAL - 1
B - 33
RD - 4
S - 1

I suggest you call Dave Thomas just to confirm CAL stands for what I think it does (I'm reasonably sure it does, however, I was shocked to find only one CAL number in the database).

CAL does indeed mean what you think it does ("Charter Annual Life"). It was created for one certain person, at least that's how I heard the story from some other CL'ers.
