What is the distance that most major shoots chrono at. Have looked in the rule book and a distance (1ft., 3ft., 10ft., etc,) is not listed.

They appear to be set at the manufacturers recommended distance.

My Pact is 8 feet.

I use 8 feet for my Chrony Beta Master based on their recommendations.

Far enough away that the blast doesn't affect the sensors. At least 6', with 8' to 10' being more common. The near side of a chrono coffin act like a baffle to protect the sensors inside, and I've seen people shoot those closer in.

When I chrono, I use 10 feet for pistols. Seems to give consistent velocities.

On a side note, I once nearly went minor at a match with a tested 172PF load. The guy almost stuck the gun in the screens. He couldn't have been more than two feet from them.

Most major matches check your loads at 10 ft. My pact says 8 ft.

Do ten feet for the most consistent reading. Also, use a blast shield. It does make a difference. I just cut a hole in an old target.

The rule is something like "manufacturers recommended distance". I usually measure at 4 yards to be safe. You typically only lose about 1 fps per foot of air the bullet has to bash through anyway.
