Tomorrow in Dayton we will "enjoy" a high of 57f.
This is not the winter that I have come to loathe!
I feel an impulse every morning that I wake up and cannot feel my toes from the fridged conditions that I require my thermostat to maintain to move swiftly and without notice to warmer climates. I am currently reading the "Odd Thomas" series of books where the title character lives in California. Lows of 85 and highs upwards of 110...I welcome that!
Until the time comes that I am faced to endure 90 degree weather day in and day out.
Perhaps my unfortunate (or fortunate) local has preconditioned me to require changes every 5 months.
All I know is that I am grateful that I can dryfire INSIDE and not have to warm my hands on a heater as I drill about in a detached garage.

I'm at the point now where I not only WANT to be shooting on the weekends, but I NEED to be shooting on the weekends. I was talking to a close friend the other day about how I am experiencing an increase in anxiety bouts. He asked me what coping skills I was using to deal with them. Killing myself on the elliptical and dryfire are the only two right now.
I miss the long drives to club matches, the time away from all of the other stressors of life, bsing around with shooters, and just SHOOTING.

Everything felt very familiar and comfortable, including some aspects of the shooting. I felt slow...exceptionally slow. My hands were frozen but I know that the freeze is in the brain. That being said, it wasn't a complete embarrassment. My reloads...some of them...felt good. Getting to feel the recoil of the gun was groovy. After watching the video, it reinforced my notion of pokey-ness.

I could see your rustiness (is that a word?) wearing off as we shot more. With a few more matches you will be back in tip top shooting form in no time!

I remember thinking "C'mon man, unfreeze your hands!" during the end of the first stage. Those three targets should have been burned down.
My splits on the third and fourth stages were nearly identical, even after the distance changed. That indicates to me that I was waiting on a feel, and not a sight picture, before pulling the trigger. That feel is my level of comfort in taking the shot. I trust that more club matches will bolster my comfort level and absolve me of that horrible spectre of self doubt.
I did work out today, but no dryfire, I had two seperate engagements at two separate hospitals. The second was a case of need, but the first was to be able to hold my two little nieces for the first time: Aada and Elenore

-Woke up and prepped my ultra low carb salsa chicken in the slow cooker
-Worked out on the elliptical to another episode of Breaking Bad (great show, btw)
-Rearranged my furniture to facilitate running drills for dryfire
-Dryfired with the new running drills
-Took a long hike at the Fairborn Quarry

The hike (but certainly NOT the temperature...it's COLD here in Ohio!!) reminded me of the only time I had the pleasure of being in a desert. I was 14 or so, and I participated in a program that built homes for the homeless in Juarez. On the way back, we spent a day somewhere in New Mexico. Simply beautiful.
Maybe for spring break, I need to fly out west to Arizona...

I'm pretty much doing everything else so that I don't have to set up my press. Kinda like Pee Wee Herman and the snakes at the pet store:

Off all things I was expected to read here, I didn't think in the end I would actually appreciate living in CA. Its funny I'm looking forward towards trading warm weather in for freedom one day.
It's amazing what one will trade in the dire need of the moment. Although it has been cold here in Ohio, this has been the most mild winter that I can recall...particularly when I measure it in the number of calamity days (snow days) that we have had. To date, there have been zero school delays, and zero closings due to weather.
Not that I am complaining...I love my job! But it is a fun game to play: A winter storm is a-brewin'! Who thinks we'll have tomorrow off!
As for the present day, I arrived home after work, ran back to the gym and did another 47 minutes on the elliptical, then dryfired with my windows open to lap in the sweet 60 degree weather.

Stumbled on this awesome video on YouTube...some great holster ideas! BTW-the "hole" in a G27 is for grabbing the gun by your fingertips

I've been dryfiring like crazy...but not today, and probably not tomorrow either. A very close friend of mine had some malignant flesh removed today, and I spent my time after work taking care of her. Tomorrow my father has shoulder surgery, and I imagine I will be by his side after work.
There's a match coming up this Sunday in Mburg. The weather will be too nice to miss out.
Here's a picture of myself in my office wearing a mask. Completely and painfully unrelated to this post:

Now that I am back from the gym this morning, setting up the damn thing is my top task for the day:

I haven't purchased bullets in forever...and it appears that Precision bullets are on back-order. Any suggestions for what's good and cheap these days?
