I successfully staked in a new carrier latch, thanks for the help Patrick. Maybe somebody can help me with another problem...
The gun still has a problem it has always had; it often fails to lock open the bolt when empty. What can I tweak or replace to remedy this?
I swapped the whole trigger assembly with one from a brand-new gun and it had the opposite problem. It wanted to lock open with rounds still in the tube.

Erik,
Do you have a side saddle or an extended tube?

Just an 8+1 magazine, an EasyLoader, and a big safety.
And the problem occurs with any ammo.

Now please remember that I am a rookie (disclaimer)!!
What I found on my 1100 with 8+1 was that I had the securing ring for the ext tube was too tight.
Just a thought without a typing much.
Thanks

Erik,
The most common causes would be underpowered rounds (not driving the carrier all the way to the rear), a blown out O ring, or the gas hole(s) are too big, or some other sort of gas leaking/sealing problem.

Erik,
My 1100 is sensitive to the slots in the pistol & piston seal being aligned with the ports. If the ports in the barrel are at 12 o'clock I put the slots at 4 and 8 o'clock. I also replaced the piston/piston seal and barrel seal(o ring) in my old 1100. I also stay away from light loads. Hope this helps but YMMV:)
