USPSA sent me a couple of DVD's. The first was titled "USPSA New Shooters Class", and the second was titled, " This is USPSA."

I think these DVD's are very good for new or interested shooters. Does anyone know of any software that I could use to reduce the file size or break the DVD's into sections so that I could post these video's on my club web sight for people to down load?

Thanks, Doug

I also got the packet a couple of days ago. Just about cracked up when I watched the
"This is USPSA" DVD. Watch our fearless leader--Michael Voigt---go on record about the
features of open CLASS. Twice!

Other than that, it's a really good presentation. Only about 8 minutes long, and well worth
having in your "prospective new shooter" tool kit.
"Before a standing army can rule, the people must be disarmed; as they are in almost every kingdom of Europe. the supreme power in America cannot enforce unjust laws by the sword; because the whole body of the people are armed, and constitute a force superior to any bands of regular troops that can be, on any pretense, raised in the United States.”

That's a great idea, but be sure to check with USPSA first. It's copyrighted material.

I just got the DVDs today. I have everything I need at work to rip stuff from the DVDs. I'll try to remember to call USPSA Monday and I'll post their reply.

This is a great idea, I just had someone at one of the offices I work out of ask me "what are those pistol matches are that you talk about". I dug around the web looking for something to show and ended up showing him some of the Area 5 vids from last year. Of course Jake blazing through a few stages prompted a "wow I can't do that, I can't go that fast"...... My response was not to worry neither can I and neither can most folks.

It would be nice to have something available on the web that covered many skill levels so that someone new can see that even if you don't run a sub 4 sec El Prez doesn't mean you should come out to play.

LOL! Most of the folks who play the game can't!

Exactly my point (even though my typing might not have conveyed it)... ;) You, I, and just about anyone else in the game knows that blazing stages may not be the norm. When the average person on the "outside" does a web search that brings up someone like {Insert GM's name here} they might think that's what they need to shoot to do to be competitive (or just to have fun). Which of course could scare them away without even trying the game.

If the USPSA site lacks anything it's videos; bandwidth is expensive but there's got to be a way to work that part out. Some short but sweet vids of shooters from D up to GM would be just one more way to entice folks to come out.

Is USPSA sending this DVD to all members?

I spoke with Dave Thomas. USPSA does own the rights. They have no problem with a USPSA club using the materials, but he does want the copyright info to follow the materials. If any of you guys come up with a cool way to use the materials, Dave would like to know so he can check it out and spread the word.

FWIW, Windows Movie Maker and the Windows Media Encoder can add copyright (and author and rating and... ) information to ripped and transcoded video files, so that might be a good way to go if you're planning on making WMV files.

I'm able to capture it to a .mpg file with video capture out of Roxio, but that's as far as I can go. Camtasia won't import it, it bitches about decoders, even though I can play the mpg file all day long with windows media player and roxio's included cineplayer. Quicktime Pro says the mpg file "isn't a valid movie file". Flash 8 professional comes closest to doing anything with it, but in the end result I get audio only and no video. And I can follow the same procedure with a different .mpg file in flash 8 and get a successful result.
