For a year now, several of us have been running a monthly 2 or 3 gun match at Shooters Paradise in Woodbridge VA. We utilize 1/2 of the range or an area 14 yards wide and 22 yards long. Some doubted if it could be done or even survive but the good news is....it has. Why all the fuss....we like to shoot!

What I'd like to do is pass along a tidbit of info. (secrets of success) in case there are others out in shooting land are thinking about giving it a go.

Secrets:
Signup Roster is posted on the forum.
Squad Size = 5 max
Time Limit = 1 Hour for each squad to shoot 3 stages.
Start time = 5 pm
End time = last squad starts at 8 pm and cleanup begins at 9:15 out by 10:00pm.
Stages = 3
Stage Design = Build your match around one stage.
KISS Principal = Keep your stage setups to a min.
Scoring.... Run time + penalties - bonus = total time

Example: The following are the stages for this months match. Stage 3 is the final stage but stages 1 & 2 utilize the same targets.

Tech details:

-We use a Caswell Grand Trap that absorbs rifle fire up to .50 BMG as well as bird shot, slugs and buckshot.

-We lined the walls with steel that is close to T1 grade and when struck at an angle of fewer than 45 degrees by pistol or shotgun rounds, it deflects projectiles into the backstop.

-We have never closed the range to the public during any of our competitions which include: USPSA, IDPA, & ICORE (all 3 affiliated) as well as practice and 3gun. The other 1/2 of the range stays open & we often attract spectators from the general public - which I consider to be a big advantage in recruiting new shooters.

After I set the match up and looked it over a little closer a change was made to stage 3. The shooter started with the pistol unloaded and was given instructions to load it anytime after finishing postition #2. A little proactive measure in safety.
