We are setting up a small one day 3 gun event which is to be run to IPSC rules as 3 gun tournement. Last year we got good results from each match using this system but were unable to get overall tournement scores. Has any one else had these problems and how did you get around it?

Thanks for any help!

Okay, I'll do what everybody else does when they have scoring questions like this and ask a totally non-helpful alternate question, to wit: are you completely married to winmss? Only reason I ask is that Joy Hyden and I scored the 2003 3-Gun Nationals as a strict 3-gun tournament with ezws and it produced aggregate tournament results quite nicely. Failing that and you say you absolutely by-god got-a-gun-held-to-your-head HAVE to use winmss, I don't have an answer. I think I saw on the announcement for one of the many maintenance releases of winmss that they had addressed this issue and it's possible it does now what you're asking, but I'm not sure.

Well, I was told we were supposed to use Winmss but if the other system produces the same results I don't see why we couldn't switch. Where do you download the ezws from? Does it allow high value targets (long range flashers)?

Thanks for the response.

I suspect that, being a non-US IPSC region (New Zealand), you are required to use WinMSS unless the New Zealand Regional Director approves EZWinScore for use in the region (see 9.11 in the rulebook). I suspect that means that EZWS is not an option for you.

Note, too, that the IPSC rifle rulebook does not support "enhanced target value" (eg, for long-range flashers). If I recall correctly, only the shotgun rulebook allows for 10-point steel targets, and even 10 points is sometimes not enough to make a long-rage flasher "worth shooting".

Having said all that, if you want to use EZWS, and/or use WinMSS to do higher-value targets, we can help. We do that stuff here in the rebellious US ;-)

Appendex C3 of Rifle rules allows double value for metal targets.

I know that several 3gun events here have run with an assortment of scoring methods and have even run mixed gun events (definitly not out of the IPSC rules). I was trying to stick to the rules as close as possible. However, if ezws gets the same results and can generate tournament results, I'm in since I still can't get the latest Winmss to generate tourney results.

If they're not running it as any sort of official IPSC event, then they can use whatever software they please, I should think.

As to aggregate (tournament) listings, I went to the, um, "IPSC Global Village" and looked in the stats area. Here's a link to a thread discussing tournament results in winmss. Looks like it was added only VERY recently.

Thanks Bill.

That thread is exactly the problem I am having with WinMss. I am in contact with Chris and hope to have this resolved before our match.
